RE: Not amused...

Finally I was able to pick up the stepper motor and replaced it. The test print went for nearly six hours and was completed with no problem.

Was that really a bad quality stepper motor? I don't know because the ambient temperature dropped to 11-12°C and therefore it is possible that it was cold enough that the stepper motor axis could not transfer enough heat to soften the filament. We have to wait until spring to see if the replacement motor will print when the temperature gets higher or I have to dare to test a larger print with closed cabinet door.

Funny thing is: when the temperature is this low, you get other problems. I tried to print some small, flat PLA objects and they have quickly (after 10-15 minutes) started to warp away from the building plate and soon they were knocked off completely. I had to close the cabinet door and so the temperature climbed to 16-17°C and then the part remained attached to the bed. Seems like 16-20°C is the best ambient temperature to print PLA.

As soon as I have some time, I have to test ABS again. I ripped off the destroyed PEI Sheet from my old print plate and replaced it with a capton sheet. Unfortunately capton is thinner than PEI so the overall height is less than before. Is there an easy way to switch between different print beds, without the need to recalibrate the bed height every time?

Sure is. Download the latest printer firmware, and set up individual profiles for each of your sheets: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/firmware-3-8-0-final-for-original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-2/

Ok, second to latest software - those guys are updating faster than I can type...

Wow, that's cool! 😎

I was not aware of this feature altough I have the newest firmware on the printer. Thanks!

Üdvözlöm István,

That's great you can print again. Seems nobody suspected the stepper motor being guilty. Yes the recent 3.8.1 has even more new features.

So you can have pre calibrated 8 different sheets I did it in way 4 used for textured sheet for four different types of filament and 4 used for Smooth PEI sheet again for 4 diferent filaments type.

Strugle is sometimes not to forget to select the apropriate sheet profile before start of the print. 😊

Would be probably great to be able to tell the FW which sheet you have currently using and based on the filament type to let him automaticaly select and/or suggest the correct sheet profile. Will talk to technical support, if this would be feasible.

Have a nice day

Jó estét Zoltán,

yes, it's great to be able to print again. 😉  I was considering to buy a Bondtech Extruder Upgrade which is advertised with the advantage that it eliminates jamming. Seems like I'm not the only one with this problem. If the replacement stepper motor solves the issue for a long time (let's see next summer) then I will spare the money.

I'm looking forward to the experiments with TitanX ABS and Capton. I will report back on this.

One thing is for sure, it's freaking hard to apply a large capton sheet without bubbles.

Does anyone tried TitanX with a Prusa printer?

Jó estét István,@istvan-k5

remélem, most már minden (vagy majdnem minden ) rendben van. I look forward your experience with Tianx. I am preparing myself for ASA, heard about it has all positive qualities of ABS and less negatives.

Participating on several other discussion threads, I have seen, some people move the filament spool outside of the enclosure, which prevents the filament (especially PLA) to become softer due to enclosure internal temperature.

Jó reggelt Zoltán,

I did not had much time recently but the small prints I did with PLA was working fine with the new stepper.

For TitanX I really have to sit down and take time. I have to upgrade the Firmware, measure the thickness of the bed with the capton tape and set up everything properly. As Xmas is coming, there is a lot of other things to do, so it might take a couple of weeks until I have enough time for it. I will definitely give feedback as soon as there is some progress.

Szép hetet!
