I buy Isopropyl by the Gallon.  It is not cheap but it is the time we are in.

Smaller bottles are also available.  It is about $14 more than I paid pre-COVID.

No issues in Australia.

5L of 100% for under $50 with free shipping from Kogan.

@morphias

Not a bad price today.  I could get 6 liter bottles for that price 6 weeks ago and a gallon for $29.  Sad what hoarding and homemade sanitizer has done to the hobby.

I paid $9 pre-COVID for 16 oz. of 99%. I can find it at first aid supply houses for $10-15 including $5 for shipping. It's out there, just not with free or 2 day shipping.

PSA: Any IPA over 65% is hygroscopic and will absorb water from the air once opened.

Just something to keep in mind if you are buying in bulk and paying a premium for 99% - you're just wasting money, unless you plan to use it all in a very short time.

Are you saying it absorbs water through the bottle?  It shouldn’t of you keep the lid on tight.  How is it a waste on money?  I buy it by the gallon and have tested it at the lab.  It still burns and does not appear to get weaker.

Most lids are just those stupid little cardboard inserts or flip-top caps that aren't airtight. Otherwise, if you keep the lid on it's fine.

The "waste of money" is just if you expect it to remain 99% over a long period of time - esp. if 91% is cheaper, you really don't get any benefit from paying extra for 99%.

Just took a quick re-look at the first aid suppliers, and most of the actual alcohol in any concentration 70-99% is well under $5 for 16oz. You end up paying $8-9 for postage, so at that point I just go with the strongest concentration in stock. I seem to be able to find it for under $15 which isn't outrageously more than I paid before the crisis, so just wanted to make clear that "there are drops to be found, just not fast". A good wash seems to help adhesion more than alcohol in any concentration for PEI, but I imagine some of the resin printer users are more desperate.

Ok.  Buy in bulk and it still works after a year.  I buy 99% because I can get it at the same price as 91% when COVID is not here.

Mine still measures 95-99% after 3-4 months in a spray bottle.

Thanks everyone, mail order may be an option but not in the next few days.  @bobstro is mild dish soap OK for powder coated textured sheets?

Original Dawn dish soap is perfect (Fairy in UK). Others work too, of course, but avoid anything with hand softeners or other additives. Hot water, a good scrub with a plain dry paper towel and dry with another and you should be all set. The official Prusa recommendations are for isopropyl alcohol only on the textured sheets, but if you dry it well and print immediately with a heated bed, you should not have any issues. Avoid touching the print area as much as possible.

My local Walgreens had it (IPA) when I last needed it during the height of the panic.

However, I also use, at times, denatured alcohol from the hardware store. It's ethyl alcohol that's been adulterated (some say with methyl alcohol, others say with things less nasty) so it's not possible to use it to drink.

It seems a bit more potent, as in cleaning, than the 91% IPA. It's very good at taking off the glue stick residue.

Any hardware or paint store should have it.

My local Sam's Club has 2x32 ounce bottles of 91% IPA for around US$4. It seems like the supply chain is slowly getting back to normal.

Yeah, we call it 'metho' here in Australia. Methylated Spirits is the full name.

It's cheap, excellent for cleaning and highly recommended by Maker's Muse - an awesome Aussie 3D printing YouTuber.

When you scrub your plate and dry it with a paper towel, if you see foam - go back and rinse it again with hot water.

Use your hand and scrub it. (only exception to never touch the print area). Water should bead off and dry clean. Then go print.

IPA is a nice-to-have. I would be happy with just regular Dawn scrubs.

Almost....Top tip from my painting crew....store with lid down. Stays wetted all the time.  What you should do is decant what you need and store the rest in a cool dark place....but with the lid down.

Andrew

P.S. Chemists stock it as rubbing alcohol.

Soap/water?

I'm cleaning my printbeds with degreasing soap and warm water. Isopropanol 99.9%

I live in Austria and buy isopropanol here: https://hoefer-shop.at/technische-chemikalien/isopropanol/1-liter?number=SW1225

You don't have to use isopropanol pure, you can also thin down it with distilled water.

I live in suburban Chicago and found that some Ace Hardware stores carry 1 gallon can of 99% IPA for $32.99. I picked one up last night. Also, a buddy of mine works in IT and turned me on to fiber-optic cleaning solution which is 99.9% IPA. I was able to find a distributor in the US https://store.phonetx.com/51848500.html $69.97 for 12 (16oz) bottles.
