No LED... A bit embarassing

That an $1100 printer doesn't come with 1 LED strip for lightning...

Come on Prusa, do better. Definitely falling behind the chinese competition, with build volume as well.

  • One of the subtle adjustments Prusa will navigate as the buyers become more consumer focused as opposed to the good old days when buyers was more of the maker variety and just made their own.

If I wanted lights on mine, I would put them there.  As it is not currently enclosed, I (and I suspect many others) have no use for that feature.  If you want lights on yours, put lights on it.

I do kind of wonder how Brand X is compensating for these hit and run comments we have been seeing.

RE: No LED... A bit embarassing

One of the main reasons I bought a Prusa was being able to mod it easily, unlike certain other manufacturers. I've put lights on mine which work great in some circumstances but not all, so over the next week they are getting reworked. If Prusa had put light on it would they be like my version 1, my version 2, a.n.others preferred solution? Different people have different requirements, I would rather spend a few pounds (12 to be exact) getting exactly what suits me rather have the whims of someone half the world away being imposed.

Did you think I wasn't going to respond and call our your ignorance?

What a pathetic argument... I don't remember asking you if you wanted a standard light btw. I'm sure many do if I took a poll

Oh by the way, there is already a pointless "underglow" under the touchscreen if you didn't notice, are you complaining about having that, did you "WANT" that?..

I paid $1100, I think an LED light is cheap enough to add in that package, considering a $300 printer can have it by default, there's no reason not to have one, and your response and attitude is sad

Next thing you're going to tell me if I wanted more build volume like other cheaper printers have, I should mod my own vertical rails LOL.

It's called a criticism, and a very valid one. I like Prusa quality, but I know they could do better for the price, I'm not delusional like you. An LED being there should be a default for the pricetag, just because you don't "want it", means nothing, and I didn't ask your opinion. I always wonder about people like you, who willingly defend having less value for your money lol.

With that attitude it sounds you just should make a much better research before clicking buy in the store.

No one forces you to buy that stuff, Prusa decided given model is in given price range and they make an offer.

If you think it does not contain thing you want then don't buy it.

Btw do you buy it for printing capabilities or lighting capabilities?

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.

Didn't you notice it didn't come with lights before you purchased it?

I suspect he bought it for time lapse videos 🙂

It certainly didn't come with an LED, except the status lights on the LCD, but a exposed pin to control some add on lights would have been great.  After all it seems to be exposed in the firmware, but alas no user definable pins are indicated. Just saying.

Well, there actually is an easily accessible connector for LED strips - the terminals on the PSU. You can simply attach a 24V LED strip, turn on the printer and behold - there will be light! OK, that doesn't make it possible to switch the light on/off using the control panel on the printer, but you can always add a little switch between the PSU and the strip. Or an Arduino and a MOSFET or a relay. Or a NodeMCU module and a relay/MOSFET - that even opens up thing like ESPHome and smart home integration.

To be brutally honest: I personally prefer a non-existing solution for such an easily solvable problem to some half-assed crap that's optimized for being as cheap as possible. If you want that light, Prusa sells it as an enclosure accessory. It's too expensive, it's not exactly what I want and I personally am happy that I was not forced to pay for it just to rip it out and replace it with something better.

There is, and I really don't want to insult anybody here, a key difference between the target audience for Prusa and Bambu. Prusa is a company that develops stuff for makers, and they design their products assuming that their customers will build this kind of stuff themselves, anyway. Bambu, on the other side, caters to people who want to use a 3D printer as a tool they neither can nor have to modify. Both are totally valid standpoints, and I think the market absolutely needs both. But it makes no sense to point at a Linux box and complain that it's easier to use a Mac for audio production in a studio.

LOL.  My Voron kit came with a couple of LED strips that mount in the top of the enclosure.  IIRC (it's been almost a year), they connect to the controller board and are run through the firmware, with all sorts of different options as to color, intensity, etc etc.  I have no use for any of that, and have them set to white light at 100% intensity whenever the printer is on.  I could have accomplished the same thing with LED strips wired directly to the PSU as you describe, for less hassle and complication.  Fortunately the kit maker (LDO) has good instructions and provides a good starter config, so it wasn't that much hassle, but at some point just because you can add a feature, doesn't make that feature worthwhile.

I agree. Especially if that feature is technically just a quality-of-life thing like an LED strip - people will have very different requirements for those, and any kind of one-size-fits-all solution will be a crappy compromise for almost everybody. Nah, I prefer a barebones device that I can customize myself. But then again - I am definitely the "maker type", and I did choose a Prusa printer instead of a Bambu for that exact reason. 😉
