Muliple Materials/Single Layer/Manual Switching
I have an MK3S and have done many prints where I switch materials/colors with layers (like "sign making") - and that works - no problem.
But now I'm messing with doing it on a single layer. I've set everything up appropriately - set up for "two extruders" and the "Single Extruder/Multiple Material" box - and configured for "Wipe Tower", "M600" color change G-Code, etc.
The results are a mess - and I don't think it's me.
The printer has a BIG problem starting the new filament. First, it wants to start by ooozing big globs of filament that usually harden and cause a subsequent "crash". Or staring with big stringy bits that generally get caught in the head if I'm not standing there with a pair of flush-cutters to jump in and "edit" the piece on the fly, old-school. Once a layer/material gets beyond the initial switch - it seems okay. It's just like the logic of how to handle oozing, wiping and started is totally wrong.
I'm on 2.4.0 of PrusaSlicer.
Like I said - this seems like a pretty basic, as-intended case (well, as much as single-extruder, multi-material, single-layer goes). But it seems like the slicer isn't really doing what it should.
What can I do?????

when the filament changes, it purges the old colour and asks you to confirm that the colour, is clear!
at this point you have a worm cast of purge filament on the build plate, under the extruder and there is an immense temptation, to remove the wormcast...
Instead... if you hold the wormcast still and click the LCD Button, to confirm that the colour is clear, the extruder will return to the job, extruding a little more filament, as it goes. and this extra filament extrusion will remain attached to the purge worm cast in your hand, and automatically pull off the nozzle.
so you don't have to try and chase the extruder with tweezers or long nose pliers... and there are no blobs on the model.

So once I hold the wormcast - and it extrudes the extra (after the filliment change) - and then it pulls away leaving the extra as you say (the extra was my problem)....should I then throw out the wormcast and the extra once it's done with the post-change extrude?
