MK 8 extruder heater blocks.
I was constantly having filament seepage problem problems using the aluminium heater blocks.
If I extra tightened the block to the 6 mm x 1 mm threaded tube , 2 things happened, (a) I stripped the thread in the block
and or (b) the stainless steel threaded tube would snap off. Decided to make new blocks using phosphor bronze and after 3 years
never needed to replace them. Heating takes a few seconds longer from warm up, but the heat dissipation or coefficient of heat transfer is less, meaning the block
retains heat and does not radiate as much as the aluminium.
No more stripped threads and or broken tubes or filament leakage Please note in the attached screenshot , I still use annealed copper washers either side of the heater block to compress the nozzle and tube nut.
Fortunately I have a small mill and lathe in my workshop. Dimensional drawings I can supply, just ask.
I hope of interest to members.
