"Likes" are now anonymous?!

As of today, I can no longer see who "liked" a post. The forum just displays "x people liked this post", instead of giving the user names.

I assume that is deliberate, due to some privacy concerns? But it means a loss of functionality which was relevant for me: I quite often used the "like" function to acknowledge an answer to a question or suggestion I had posted -- to confirm that I had seen it and to say "thanks" to the author. (I might still write an extra thank-you post if it was an elaborate answer, but for quick exchanges I prefer to avoid cluttering the thread with another post. That of course no longer works if the author (and others who might follow the discussion) can no longer see who gave the like.

May I suggest that we bring back the "personal like" function? I don't see a privacy concern here -- every post shows the name of its author too, so why shouldn't likes be visible too?

Seconded.  Although I see that the author of the post being liked can see who gave the like under the notifications bell.  But making them anonymous to everyone else makes no sense.

I completely agree with your points. The visibility of likes added a useful layer of interaction—especially in quick exchanges where a full reply might feel excessive. It was a subtle but meaningful way to acknowledge input, show appreciation, or signal agreement.

While I understand there may be privacy considerations behind the change, perhaps there could be a middle ground? Maybe users could opt in to having their likes be visible, or at least allow post authors to see who liked their own posts.

Bringing back the personal like function—at least in some form—would definitely help maintain the clarity and community feel that’s so valuable in discussions here.

Thank you, John, for making the effort to register on this forum just for this post, and for reaching out to ChatGPT for comment. I appreciate your support on the matter, but can't help wondering whether there may be some ulterior motives involved? 🙄

I’m thinking most of the people that use this forum have a list of things they would like to see fixed, changed or updated. Was making “Likes” anonymous on anyone’s list? I know it wasn’t on mine.

I agree with everyone else, change it back.
