Is resizing considered remixing?

I wanted to get some opinions on whether or not you think resizing a model, or part of a model, would be considered a remix. If not, how would be the proper way to proceed? Link to the model or parts in the description with instructions to scale to X% when slicing?

RE:

Resizing is not remixing, it's just scaling.  Remixing implies a change to appeearence or function that will save the printer some work.  IF there was an associated (partial) redesign then that's another matter.

Eg. 'Gizmo resized from 6" to 15cm' is not a remix.

But:  'Gizmo resized from 6" to 15cm and threads changed to metric M8' is a remix.

Also: "Naked elven druid princess resized from 6" to 15cm' is not a remix.

But: "Naked elven druid princess resized from 6" to 15cm with breast reduction so the model doesn't fall over.' is a remix.

Scaling percentages, to change from 'OO' to 'N' guage for example, could be posted as a make or even just a comment.

Cheerio,

I don't think it's worth it to re-post a model with a simple scale adjustment.

An example, model railroad accessories.  These are commonly posted in one 'scale', usually O or HO, and it's trivial to scale them up and down.

It can be done using a drafting program, or, simpler, in a slicer such as PS on the fly.

Amen. All it does is accelerate the universe's entropy death. Just add a comment on the original file. A model upload should feature some meaningful enhancements to the original model.

Resizing a model is not considered remixing. It is best to link the model with instructions to scale to the desired percentage in the description.

Might I add that different iterations of parametric models aren't remixes either! 😉

Thank you to everyone who responded, I appreciate all of your answers, advice and examples. For what it's worth, I completely agree on all points. I see models everyday that are either resized versions or a straight re-posting of unaltered parts. I've had conversations with a couple of those users and I believe most of those uploads are born from ignorance rather than anything malicious so it's great that a thread with a little bit of remixing etiquette is here for me to share the next time. And if anyone reading this has any more advice on the subject of remixing, please feel free to share.

A lot of what I do is remixing and I have a general rule when it comes to uploading remixed parts. If I haven't altered it, I don't upload it. I'll put a link in the description to download any unaltered part from the original design that is needed for my remix.

My favorites are seeing someone re-post a Benchy for the billionth time or one mechanical part from the collection offered by Prusa with absolutely no changes.

The true embodiment of Ralph Wiggums saying, "I'm helping."
