"Ironing" interfacing support layer for smooth supported surfaces?

I was wondering if implementing "ironing" for dense support layer (interfacing support layer with model) would make both aestheticaly smoother finish and easier support removal?

Let me hear your thoughts ?

So far as I understand it, ironing just produces a good top finish. I wouldn't expect it to do much for stuff laid on top of an interface layer. The problem is that, unless you're using dissolvable material underneath, there has to be a gap underneath. Anytime there's a gap underneath, you're not going to get that "squish" for good adhesion, so extrusions will be stingy and round immediately above support. You can make it "better" but never "great". I don't think the support finish is really the issue.

Yeah that sounds reasonable, but i think that ironing interface layer and printing it at 90degree oppozite from first layer of model would be easier for removal since squishy strings of bottom layer wont have gaps to merge with?

@3dalhemija and @bobstro I like the idea. Squishing material in between the first supported layer voids. If the interface layer is smooth and cool enough, it should be possible to fill the voids and still be able to peel the support interface layer off. Temp, cooling, extrusion need optimizing. Possibly a different lower nozzle temp for infill of the first layer, before the ironing.
