INDX: upgrade or set?

As of now, the INDX is marketed solely as an add-on for Prusa One. In one of the interviews Josef says something that could be interpreted as a hint of "One+ with INDX" set becoming a product later but that's it for the news.

From all the info you can also read that installing INDX would result in replacing "the top lid, spoolholder, and filament feed", and when I asked on Support, seems like the entire nextruder gets replaced. This all sounds like being left with quote a lot of spare parts.

So, what's the deal with the "INDX discount"? It's a strange push to buy One+ now only to partially disassemble it two months later and be left with barely used parts I'll never again have use for. And the $75 discount doesn't sound like it would even cover the cost of the unneeded parts. I would much more like to just wait a bit more and buy a printer that will be just "One+ with INDX" without paying for unnecessary parts. But Prusa keeps silent about it and instead gives us that strange discount. I feel like I'm getting fooled into a bad deal. I tried asking on support but got nothing.

All of us who are not in a hurry but want a new printer with INDX deserve to know more details before the discount offer ends so we can just get a better deal not based on a wild guess...

RE: INDX: upgrade or set?

I see your point. But obviously Prusa will not publish a statement now saying "Once the INDX is available, you will also be able to buy a Core One with INDX pre-installed". (If that is the plan, which we do not know.) It would massively hurt their sales because many potential buyers would wait for that new configuration then.

Prusa's margin on the INDX will be smaller than what they make on the Nextruder, since the INDX is an OEM solution from Bondtech while the Nextruder is made in house. So my guess is that Prusa does not exactly love the idea of selling a "Core One with INDX" package. But the customers will push them strongly to offer this configuration, since nobody will be happy to toss out the entire Nextruder plus a few cheaper parts. Will Prusa offer this? Right away, or at a later point? Who knows...

If it's only about not postponing sales, they could as well be selling preorders for such set, I'd gladly buy it now and wait.

The worst move for them is too keep silent and push people into maybe-not-so-great deal with the $75 discount. It's good for those who want INDX "maybe someday" only.

Yeah, if I had only held on the my MK4S leftovers I would almost have another printer....

Another thing to remember: If you get a C1+ now before INDX is available, you will have a C1+ now to use instead of not having anything until INDX is released.

Let's just hope the level of firmware (im)maturity of the MMU3 does not translate to INDX or it'll spoil all the fun. E.g. quirks like a disabled side filament sensor resulting in obscure errors 20 minutes into a print. This feels like a prototype even if it's at the other end of the lifecycle already.

well, that's definitely a point 🤣 Althought mostly for those who just want to start printing and eventually upgrade. I have my trusty mk3s in a good condition so I'm not in a hurry and I'm pretty sure lots of people are in a similar situation.
