how to offset z for thick build plates

I am trying to experiment with different build plates, glass, polypropylene and garolite. I cant get through the auto bed leveling and I know I am just completely missing what I am supposed to due but if I could get some help that would be great. Printing with a MK3S

P.I.N.D.A. is an induction sensor that reacts to metal. It needs metal within certain distance (IIRC 2 mm) to trigger. Maybe if you put some kind of sheet or foil underneath your new surface?

thank you so much I knew I was missing something stupid. Makes total sense I have managed to use some shim stock during bed leveling to trick the machine. My build plates are 3 and 4mm thickness so the foil under wouldn't work but good idea non the less.

Did you apply the foil atop the surface for mesh bed leveling, then remove it for the actual print?

I have not found the process to different from the original build plate.  Slowly hone it in.
