Heated build chamber patent expires this week!

With this patent expiring this week, will we see a bunch of new printers announced from a range of different manufacturers next week?  Maybe even a new Prusa printer?  What do you think?

I saw this.  I was wondering if this was the change the Prusa was waiting for to bring out the XL.  You need it for bigger prints, but also would fit in with the use of higher temp engineering resins.

@milehigh3der

That could certainly be.  Also don't forget that they are planning to release two new printers this year besides the larger version of the SL1 and the Hopefully the XL.

"On top of that, we will have two more printers released this year, but it is too early to speak of those now. Stay tuned for more news, though! 😉"

Perhaps a high temperature Prusa and something else?  Maybe a printer for continuous production (belt/no belt?).  I'm really surprised that I have seen no speculation on these.

I know Prusa is working on a heated enclosure.  I saw it on a post online.  I am not sure they intend to sell it.

To me the key is a chamber that doesn’t have all the motors and electronics in it. I can make a heated enclosure.

Yes, but a professionally made enclosure will trump anything I can make any day.

Well I don't know about Prusa but Creality launched this just some days ago:

And a review from Naomi (Note: Naomi works with Creality so she can be biased by that):

Is that one of those "If you look carefully at this video, you might notice a 3D Printer in the background!". 😏

Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.

No it is not.
Naomi Wu is a great engineer that has a youtube channel with interesting projects and she has made huge works for the community designing open source staff and convincing Creality to go Open Source.

That’s my point.  Putting a printer in a box, meh.

it looks like that Crealty is on the right track.  Still see a motor in the heated chamber, but it looks like the electronics are outside.  I’d like higher temps, if I’m going to go ‘hot’ I’d rather be able to do some of the exotics.  The fan is just blowing hot air.  I’d like to see some water cooling for the heartbreak and keep the filament tube cool.  But to dream.

The bed lift mechanism of that Creality looks very much like that on the Ultimaker S series.

I don't think the color scheme is an accident either. Not surprised from Creality.

Ha.  She's dressed like a stripper, and added two sets of cartoon b**bs to the start of the video.

She may be brilliant, but she's not stupid.

Yeah but, a professionally made enclosure costs professionally made money.  The price of adding a heated enclosure would move Prusa's printers into a whole different market.

I don't know that this changes anything except more profit for companies that no longer need to pay a license to the patent.

Acknowledged.  I think it could be an add on.
