Heat bed sensor problem

My heat bed sensor is not working properly. The red flashing light dims then goes out completely comes back on and repeat or sometimes when it goes out it will not come back on. This shuts down the machine and when I stop the print the display will say ERR: MINTEMP BED. I have checked all the connections and still have the same problem. The more I try and run the printer the worse the problem becomes. Any clues.

Thanks, Kevin

If you do a search you will find it's most likely the heatbed thermistor has a short in the wire somewhere.   Mine you can move the heatbed back and forth and watch the heatbed temp change.   I have a replacement on order that I hope will get here soon since the printer is down right now and I have been printing covid masks pretty much 24/7 for the past 5 weeks

@jeffrey-j7, can you not find the short or broken cable and repair it, to get you going. You can get a cheap multimeter, 20w soldering iron, 1.5mm heat shrink tube and 24awg cable from Amazon or Ebay, if you don't have them. If you keep your minimum distance, maybe a neighbour or friend might have these bits and can help out.

BED MINTEMP means that the thermistor itself or the cable is most likely defective. To be on the safe side, i would always have a replacement ready. Likewise, components of the hotend and other wear parts that are subject to heavy wear.

@david-j21

I would love to fix it but I am afraid I don't have the skills or tools necessary to fix it and I am afraid I would break something else.  I actually created a post in the Mk3 general discussion area to see if there is different sourcing available for this part (I ordered 2 from Prusa along with some other spares to have on hand)

Thanks so much for you reply!!

There are step by step instructions at heat bed thermistor replacement instructions, to replace the old heat bed thermistor. Do not panic, read the instruction as many times as you need, and make sure that you have the tools. You will also need a packet of your favorite sweets to reward yourself after each step.

When you take the old sensor off do not throw it away, if the fault is in the cable an auto mechanic hobbiest or electronics hobbiest can repair it easily.
