Ok, so I'm not going into the details as far as what was the cause, nor what was done to resolve the issue.
There was a problem with the forums that happen today (April 17th) and was reported and was resolved and patch put in place.

People can speculate, but you guys don't see whats going on behind the scenes.

It would be nice to get some detail about what happened though.  Was it a server problem?  Was it a DoS attack?  Did a software update break something?  Why does it affect only the forum and not the rest of the site?  Why does it always go down when I'm just about to post a reply?  People will definitely speculate if there aren't any details available.

As you know from being open source, sharing information is always a good thing and lets people better understand what's happening.  People have more sympathy for your plight if they can identify with the issues you are working to solve.  You're right we don't see what's going on behind the scenes, but if nobody tells us, how will we appreciate the hard work everyone is doing??  I think most of the frustration comes from not knowing why it's happening and what's being worked on to resolve it.

It doesn't have to be an essay on the fine detail, but a simple "Sorry the DB server keeps running out of memory and we have to regularly restart it until we can migrate to a new server" would be ample.

I can get the want to know what happen / share the information, but there are situations where you don't. In poker, you wouldn't tell me what cards are in your hand (regular normal poker), nor would you tell your strategy if you were playing a game of Risk. So this kind of falls into that sort of situation 🙂

Bonus points for using Godzilla, but I'm more of a Toho fan than legendary... and the building is a wee bit off 🙂

Godzilla Minus Zero is the only movie I am looking forward too. Such is the state of our movies now.

The only reason for that is if it's a security hole you're not able to patch.  And then you can just say "someone keeps exploiting a bug we can't patch yet", you don't need to give your whole hand away 🙂

There have been a number of times i have wanted to login, but the forum has been rejecting VPN connections lately.

When the forum is down, the login doesn't work.  I see the same thing and I'm not on a VPN.  The forum is hosted behind Cloudfare, a US-based caching service, so when the servers are offline you can still see some cached pages thanks to Cloudfare, but of course they can't handle the login process because they don't host the forum itself, so trying to log in it sits there for ages then bumps you back to the homepage or gives a HTTP 500 error.  When you go onto a VPN, you'll change which Cloudfare endpoint you're connecting to, and they'll all have a different set of pages cached depending on who in that region has been accessing the forum.  So you'll be able to access a different set of pages on the VPN than you can off, but it is unlikely to affect the ability to log in to the forum.

RE:

No I get the "you have been blocked" message from cloudflare.

I think they have a new policy, which is stricter than before - or are still experiencing an attack of sorts.

See attachment. This is suddenly started happening recently, it's quite annoying. Unsure who's fault it is, could be "wrong" settings on the site, or could be still an attack in progress,

RE: Forum outages

It can mean you are on a shared IP address that has been used for an attack (e.g. someone has a virus on their computer and you're both using the same Internet connection), or your IP changed and the last person who used it had the virus, or you're using a VPN that has been used by someone else to attack sites, or you yourself have a virus that's using your device to attack others.

Because the error is coming from Cloudfare, who are pretty competent, it's unlikely to be a problem with the site that causes it (as Cloudfare block it before it even gets to Prusa's hardware).

It could well be a problem with information the site has given to Cloudflare to configure its services. In any case, if Cloudflare messed up it's the site's problem to deal with, as they're no longer accessible.

I personally think one of the 2 have turned up blocking in response to the recent events, and it might now be a little over-sensitive. Then again, I don't kow what sort of traffic they are receiving.
