Forum edit and delete time windows
I only recently began using this forum and was surprised to see how short the edit window was - probably five minutes or less. Can this window be expanded? Given the relevance longevity of content on this site, I would expect something on the order of months, not minutes. Also, you should always allow a user to delete their post regardless of how much time has passed. I'm pretty sure GDPR requires that you allow users to delete their posts anyway, so you might as well make it automated. The button's already there - just remove the time window for activating it.
RE: Forum edit and delete time windows
I am sorry Mooseboys,
we have been inundated with Spam and the current setup is intended to combat that situation. Prusa hold the Admin reins.
Prusa don't generally monitor the forum, if you would like to contact Prusa directly, I would suggest, you try email or chat.
if you would like a post deleted, I can help, there.
if you report a post and ask for it to be deleted, oe of the Moderators will delete it for you, if they see the message before me.
Most of the moderators are users, like you and me.

RE: Forum edit and delete time windows
Hi Joan, how does a reduced edit time window protect against spammers? Although tons of boards have similar restrictions I had assumed they had not bothered to change the default. Seems to me you should be able to edit until another post is made in that thread.

Not to speak for Joan here, but during my brief tenure as moderator of a popular group, this is my take: As forum efforts to block spam initially and moderate new users have become effective, spammers have resorted to creating new users and -- sometimes via automation -- cut & paste content from elsewhere to appear to be a valid user. You'll see oddly placed "Thanks for the help" or "I need help with my HP inkjet printer" posts for example. Then, at some point after their account has cleared moderation, they'll sneak back in and stealth-edit those posts to contain spam links. Those get picked up by the search engines and it increases their appearance of legitimacy.
Spammers are a sneaky bunch. I do think, though, that a 1 day edit limit would still achieve the same goals so long as it's a period shorter than the initial moderation length.

Edit window = 1 hour+
Delete window = forever
Once you have an unlimited delete window, you could even remove the "edit" option altogether.
