Force Measurement -- direct method
When trying to diagnose issues with bearings, smooth metal rods, or lubricants, I've found it helpful to directly measure, record and monitor the force required to move the Y-axis Assembly. I've measured the force required to (a) pull a rod through one bearing; (b) pull a rod through two bearings; (c) pull a rod through two bearings mounted firmly into the Y-Frame. Measurements are typically between 40g to 120g, well within the dynamic range of this inexpensive spring force gage. This tool is available at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VYNT6Q6
