First Layer Temperature
Filament Settings/ Filament/Temperature.
Can anyone confirm the First Layer Temp (for Nozzle, have no need for the Bed) is NOT working?
Gcode shows it being set to 'normal' layer temp and not using that setting.
Using 2.7.1
RE: First Layer Temperature
Well you give almost no information required to track down any problem. No profile info, no machine info etc.
For normal profiles then I can say with some confidence that no one has an issue, otherwise there would be hundreds of reports.
There are none, either here or on the prusa slicer github where bugs are reported.
If you want help then open PS, slice to the extent that you are having the issue and then use File>Save Project As to save a prusa slicer project file. That will be a 3mf file. The 3mf from PS is a complete snapshot of the model(s) you are using but also more importantly ALL the settings from your profiles as well as any custom modifiers, placement etc. Take that 3mf file and ZIP it up. It must be zipped or the forum wont allow you to attach it. It will just silently not attach. No warning. So check after you post to make sure the zip file was attached.
The profiles will allow us to slice as you are and see the gcode, examine every setting, look at your start gcode (where my guess is the problem lies) etc. Without a project all it is will be guesses though.
RE: First Layer Temperature
Profile and machine wouldn't matter.
Simple to track down.
Go to Filament Settings/ Filament/Temperature with any model loaded.
Set the first layer temp to anything other than to "rest of the layers" temp.
Slice and export.
Do you see the "first layer" temp in the gcode?
Simple, right?
RE: First Layer Temperature
Except for the simple fact that the various things it is possible to configure in the printer settings can change and over ride or stop the settings for the filament values. We don’t ask for stuff without reason. If it was that simple you would have already figured it out on your own. Please supply the requested information.
A project is the best way to check the basics.
After that you get into malformed profiles/ config folders due to faulty imports and even more esoteric stuff.
RE: First Layer Temperature
How can I possibly figure it out for myself??
Ok, I'll play along, what other settings can have an effect on the first layer temperature?
Have you even tried what I asked? It was a simple question.
RE: First Layer Temperature
The guy is trying to help you, getting stroppy with him is not likely to bring forward a useful response.
RE: First Layer Temperature
Yes I have tried. Its basic stuff. I said in my first reply that I do not have an issue with the same thing or that others are either
"For normal profiles then I can say with some confidence that no one has an issue, otherwise there would be hundreds of reports.
There are none, either here or on the prusa slicer github where bugs are reported."
If you would just supply the requested zipped project file this would be much simpler and go much faster than playing 20 questions. I am not prepared to list everything that can possibly effect it as I would be typing for hours.
Everything is controlled and configured by the profiles, we NEED that info to help you. If you don't want help then why did you post here at all ?
RE:
You can't say hundreds of users would report it because you don't know how many users actually use that feature.
So if you actually just tried it, that was the answer I was looking for.
I never asked you to help, I just asked if the feature is confirmed to work or not.
See how easy that was? Instead of reading into a post, maybe just provide an answer to the question.
And I'd love to see your gcode that shows it working but I won't hold my breath.
RE:
Here you go. Zip file attached. It contains the project file used to generate the gcode and also the generated gcode.
Please examine the gcode file. The filament profile is a standard Generic PLA. The printer and print profiles are also standard prusa derived ones. It has 215 configured for the first layer and 210 configured for the other layers.
At line 168 you can see where the Printer Profile Custom Start Gcode sets the extruder to the first layer temperature of 215.
At line 498 it is set to the other layers temperature of 210. This corresponds to layer at height 0.4 (the second layer as I am slicing for a 0.2 layer height).
The M104 command is then not seen again until line 44201 where it is set to 0 to turn the extruder off (controlled by the Custom gcode defined in the Printer Settings>Custom Gcode_End gcode section).
Anything else you would like while you are being so polite ?
See, its not hard to provide us with information requested. I'm going to guess (and this is strictly a guess as you haven't provided any realistic information) that your printer profile is not set up correctly. Something that would be easy to check with an attached project file.
Also I can say, if such a basic bit of functionality didn't work then there would be thousands of people complaining. Almost every system filament profile has a different first layer temp so yes, we are talking thousands and thousands of users. As there aren't then logic dictates that it is something missing or incorrect in your configuration. Which you seem loath to provide.
RE: First Layer Temperature
@Neophyl Thank You for taking the time to answer our questions. Some of us really appreciate it!!
@JP Guitars One of the best things about using an international forum you get to learn new words. I had to look up “Stroppy”. ;-))
RE: First Layer Temperature
Seconded.
Interesting that @Frunple was making comments like "I won't hold my breath" yet when someone proves what they are saying is correct he disappears...
