Filament sensor issue

I was in the middle of a 16 hr print when my filament ran out. however, I was using AMOLRN filament and they put the end of the filament into a hole that did not release the filament. This caused the XL printer to keep printing even though there was no filament being fed to the print head. I did a change filament and the job resumed only to fail because the print head had already printed several layers of nothing but air prior to the change over.    Shouldn't the sensor have caught the fact that the print head was no longer receiving filament?

RE: Filament sensor issue

AFAIR filament sensors are a bit dumb and they detect if your filament ends (that is literally no filament at all).
Unfortunately they are not working if filament is stuck (as if not moving properly forward/backward).

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.
