Feature Request Larger Z calibration Test Print

Getting older sucks and for some of us getting older means diminished eyesight.

I would like to request a larger Z Calibration Test Print. The little 3/4" square it prints at the end is the only real way for me to get a good ideal if the Z is set right. It would be great if we had the option of lets say a quick calibration (the one we have now) and a slower one with a much larger single layer square so us less Eagle Eyed have a better chance at getting it set right.

I cant image it would be all that hard to add to the firmware.

Ok so Im not graying yet but its a cute Grandpa with a 3d Printer.

"Life Z Adjust My Way" Jeff Jordan and others

calibration_surface_PLA_75x75@200um_v4.zip

Hope that helps.

Neal

Edit: change the X and Y %'s to make it larger or smaller. I have different sizes for different printers.

Thanks, Neal but your file didn't work. It just loops back tot he forum homepage. 😉

Never mind I found it https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting-f62/life-adjust-z-my-way-t2981.html#p107492

Still would be nice to have this right on the control board.

Okay then search this forum for life z adjust my way. I probably messed up the link some how. It is basicall a 75mm by 75mm square with a single layer of .2. I think you can find them on Thingyverse also. Search under Calibration Square.

Sorry I messed it up.

Gotcha...looks like we just keep missing each other. If you are at the thread then read the whole thing if you get the time. It'll eventually lead to hyper fine bed leveling.

Luck,

you can always just make one. and save it on each sd card.

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

Re: Feature Request Larger Z calibration Test Print

if you add a sub directory called 'Test' you can include your test files there and they don't get lost in the multitude of print files in the main SD root directory

I could have sworn I read someplace that subdirectories don't show up on the SD card(?) (Or perhaps I'm having a "senior moment"...)

Know how you feel. Though sometimes I wonder if the moments aren't expanding into days. Oh well I may HAVE to grow old but I don't have to grow UP.

I know at least with earlier firmware versions there was mention of short filenames in the root directory either causing problems or being required. That pretty well covers all the bases! 😉

I've had no real issues using subdirectories. The root of my FlashAir SD card looks something like:

  • /Prints - Contains gcode ready to print. I use wireless sync to dump files here.

  • /Calibration - Contains a sub-tree for each nozzle size (0.20mm, 0.25mm ... 1.00mm) with 1st layer and other test prints for both PETG and PLA. I keep this synchronized between my desktop and 3 SD cards.

  • /Parts - Things I might print again (e.g. GoPro arms, commonly used Raspberry Pi cases and fittings).
  • Once in a while the card gets confused and only shows the 8 character DOS filenames, or sorts oddly. I just remove and re-insert it and everything works properly. I have no problems with nested subdirectories or long filenames.

We gave up on the SD card entirely. A USB flash drive hasn't had any problems, and since we're printing through Pronter McPronterface via USB anyway, everything's copacetic. 😛

Up is fine, it's the various outward growths that annoy me most.

Alternatively you can print the first layer of the Prusa logo as well
