Fake discount on filament??
Hi,
I bought a MK3 in October and now I want to rebuy the prusa orange petg filament (22,99 €) with the promised 5% discount. I live in Germany.
If I do not log in, the 1kg filament costs 22,99 €, that's 19 € w/o VAT + 21% czech VAT. So, if I reduce that price with 5%, it would be 21,84 €. Thats's what I want to pay.
But now, if I log in and look at the price, it's 23,36 € (yesterday it was 23,43 € ???) reduced to 22,19 € (22,26€ yesterday).
So, Prusa, WTF is going on here?! Why don't I get the discount on the regular price?
Re: Fake discount on filament??
It varies by locale, but discounts are typically applied to the merchandise sale price, not any applicable taxes. They may be required to tax the pre-discount amount.

Re: Fake discount on filament??
I will contact Prusa's customer care center per e-mail and ask about the intransparent pricing. As an EU citizen it's my right to know about how the discount is applied.
Re: Fake discount on filament??
Hope you aren't living in the UK then 😆
Re: Fake discount on filament??
Humm. Prusament Orange PETG.
For me, not logging in shows a price of €29.99 (inc VAT) and when logged in 28.49 (inc VAT) with a 5% discount displayed on the page.
No idea why it is so cheap for you 🙁

Re: Fake discount on filament??
PJR:
I think it is regular PETG not Prusament. The Prusament PETG is more expensive than regular PETG. I just bought a roll of regular PETG and the price was 21.93 and with discount 20.89. Mathematically it works out to .95% of the original price. edited to correct my math after login and 2X check.
It was months ago, but someone else brought this up and i thought it had something to do with the website application of the discount to the price or something IIRC. it was a while ago, and good luck finding that post, but no nefarious activity was intended and there was a reason which was going to be corrected...
OP: I am sure Prusa is not running a scam to screw people on the discount.... (...fractions of a penny from the classic movie Office Space style 😀 😀 ) bottom line, it is a very small difference and the price is what it is logged in and applied when you purchase.

I know, it is not much money we are talking about, but I am German and all things have to be 100% correct. 😆
Re: Fake discount on filament??
FWIW, I see the 10% discount applied (for assembled printer purchase) correctly when pricing in US$ without VAT.

Thanks for the correction. Yes, it does look incorrect, but I also checked some others and they are OK.
However (separate subject), I wonder whether PR may be exceeding the "Distance selling EU VAT thresholds" in some EU countries, when they should register for VAT and charge the local rate.

Re: Fake discount on filament??
Gotta love VAT - a tariff paid by the consumer instead of the shipper.

Now that is funny.

I'm very interested in knowing, where this right comes from. Can you shed some light onto this? Does this only apply to EU citizens?
Re: Fake discount on filament??
OP:
I get the German precision joke, and that is funny :). But not funny enough for me to pitch in for the difference because I am poor 😆 😆
My response was to show that my experience and everything I have seen and read indicates that Prusa is a stand up company that makes things right and to point out that the price I was actually charged was lower than expected/indicated despite the discrepancy with the web page. It must have something to do with taxes/VAT/country related fees & charges and not Prusa. I cannot imagine what kind of logistical and admin nightmare selling products across the world must entail, especially for a smallish company.
On the internet, it is difficult to infer context and meaning beyond what is actually typed and to be fair the heading of the post could have either been interpreted in jest (which I now seem it was) or an actual disgruntled and unhappy person venting, which i am sure we have all seen those and how the degenerate into nothing positive, and I am glad it was the former.. 😀 😀
BTW I am not affiliated or have any relationship with Prusa other than being an happy owner and client and am grateful for the vast knowledge on this forum and the helpful experienced users who share knowledge and I try to do the same.

It's Directive 2011/83/EU (and maybe even some parts of Regulation (EU) 2018/302 if there is any discrimination in their pricing).
As it's a EU Directive, it applies to all member states and citizens of the EU directly. Other countries are not affected.
In article 6 (1):
"[...] the trader shall provide the consumer with the following information in a clear and comprehensible manner. [...]
"(e) the total price of the goods or services inclusive of taxes, or where the nature of the goods or services is such that the price cannot reasonably be calculated in advance, the manner in which the price is to be calculated, as well as, where applicable, all additional freight, delivery or postal charges and any other costs or, where those charges cannot reasonably be calculated in advance, the fact that such additional charges may be payable. Whats the deal with this 5% or 10% discount - for anyone that purchased a kit/printer ?
Texy
Re: Fake discount on filament??
Exactly. Kit purchasers get a 5% discount in the Prusa online store, assembled purchasers get 10%.
