Does anyone know what PC Blend is blended with?
The only thing I could find is:
Proprietary Formula: Prusa Research compounds the PC with other materials in-house, avoiding styrene found in PC-ABS blends.
After I feed in a bunch of clues such as HDT/Tg and measured shrinkage the AI's "think" it is most likely a PC + polyester blend (PBT, PET etc). Makes sense.
Why do I care? I don't really. Just curious.
RE:
For fun I fed the AI the datasheet PDF and it's convinced it's no longer a polyester blend but:
Prusament PC Blend is a PC-dominant, high-flow, impact-modified polycarbonate using styrene-free modifiers and processing aids — not a PC-polyester structural alloy.
The “other components” are most likely:
Styrene-free acrylic or aliphatic elastomer impact modifiers (low %)
Flow modifiers / molecular-weight tailoring (branched or copolycarbonate PC)
Standard stabilizers (thermal, UV, processing)
This formulation:
preserves PC density, hardness, modulus, and moisture resistance
increases melt flow to FFF-friendly levels
slightly reduces HDT (exactly as observed)
delivers very high interlayer adhesion
avoids styrene entirely
