Do I Have to Pay Tariffs on a Prusa MK4S Order Under $800 in the US?
Hey, I’m new to this. I’m from the US and planning to order a Prusa MK4S. The printer costs $729, and shipping is $62.49 — total comes to $791.49.
I read that imports under $800 might be exempt from tariffs. Will I have to pay any customs or tariff fees on this? Just want to be sure before placing the order.

I am not a expert, and this should not be taken as any sort of financial/customs/tax advice.
Not that long ago, a $791.49 purchase would have fallen below the De Minimus threshold of $800 and would thus be exempt from tariffs (duties). But that appears to have been changed (looks like just this past week). So I would expect you will have to pay a 15% ($118.72) import tax based on what appears to be the current tariff rate for EU goods coming into the US. Imports will likely take longer as well, due to the overhead of collecting the tax on previous De Miminus goods.
There may be some exemptions for some types of goods, but I doubt a 3d printer is among them.

I understand that the "de minimis" exemption currently still applies, but will end on August 29th. (Unless a certain president changes his mind again.) https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5428369-trump-suspends-exemption-for-low-value-imports-under-800/
Prusa lists the fully assembled MK4S as "in stock", but the kit (which you are looking at with the $729 price tag) is listed with a 2 to 3 week lead time. So it might get tight to get one delivered before the tariff exemption falls.

The De Minimis may get you off the hook, but I bought the printer with enclosure bundle and got a bill from FedEx yesterday for the Tariff. Thankfully only 10% at the time I ordered.

Anyone actually know what the current US tariff is for Czech products; as in: What did you pay this year?
My guess is 15% today for purchases over the duty-free limit, but with the insanity that is POTUS today it might be 75% or even 100% in a few days. The US.gov sites I've reached out to are not at all helpful, either; and so far the key information has all been behind a pay wall (go figure).

"This year" is not a valid reference point; things change too often for you guys. 😉 On August 7th, the 15% tariff on EU products came into effect, so that should be the applicable rate for the moment.
And, as mentioned above: Right now the 800$ "de minimis" threshold should still apply, but only until August 29th.

Got it, thanks for the update. Sounds like I should factor in that possible 15% and extra processing time before ordering. I’ll double-check the current tariff rate and any exemptions just in case, but I appreciate the heads-up — definitely better to be prepared than surprised.

Yeah, certainly stability isn't in the current regimes vocabulary. I think it was 14% last year; but now I am 100% uncertain if it is 15% or 75% or even 100%. Worst part is the tools given by the various governmental websites are paywalled with obtuse registration requirements. Sigh.
So I am trying to buy locally to avoid the mess: and hoping Printed Solid actually exists, is honest, and viable. They claim a Prusa partnership... so it's trust at thios point; and a reliance my CC company will help if needed.

By the way, there were duties several years ago when I purchased my MK3 from Czech territory. The $800USD duty free limit was a consideration, even back then. But today, its like the wild-wild west; we just don't know.
