Custom gaskets

I wonder if anyone makes their own custum gaskets or seals.

If so, do you but o-ring rubber by the meter or volume and cut'n'glue or print with tpu/tpe?

If tpu/tpe; which materials and/or softness did you use?

It doesn't need to be submersible tight, just weathertight (custom electronicboxes protected outside). Think controllers, sensors etc for gardening, watertanks, ultrasonics, entrydetection on driveways etc.

RE: Custom gaskets

I have seen custom o-rings made for PC Cooling distribution blocks, they just buy the correct gauge of oring by the metre, cut it with a razor blade and glue it together.

Loads of info on the web about it, just search "making custom orings"

Can buy kits I believe

RE: Custom gaskets

I use cork sheet for things like low pressure oil seals, felt sheets for things like air seals and soft close gaskets, air dry silicone (the kind in the tubes) to make anything that needs to be rubbery.  There is even a tube-silicone called "make a gasket" that you just squish onto one side of a part, assemble, and the squish makes the custom gasket.

For 3D printing and gaskets I would lean towards printing molds for silicone rubber in the tubes for small, shaped gaskets that need to be "parts" - versus gasket in place.  Printing extruders for silicone is also fun - you can get any tube shape or size, and just extrude into a bucket of hydrogen peroxide, and the rubber sets up in the tube shape.  For round and small gaskets, print a tube, cut the gasket with a knife.

RE: Custom gaskets

We used to cut and glue at one of my old jobs where we often had to replace different sizes during a shift.

I have thought of making molds and using form-silicone, then i can make custom flat gaskets as well. Would require a vacuumchamber of some sort as well.

I have tried the gasket on a tube before and those makes most sense if you "never" need to open up the box as it almost always tears, atleast in my experience.

I've used some regular door and windowseals, B, D, E and P profiles. Usually made from epdm in different stiffness. They work ok in larger boxes as they can be hard to fit in smaller enclosures.
