Could I use a drawing tablet for 3D modelling?

I hear graphic tablet is most useful for 3D modelling , sculpting and texture painting.
Well i am interested in buying a XP-Pen display tablet ( Artist 24 Pro 24" model ). Has anyone used a graphics tablet successfully on Blender , Zbrush or other software? What was your experience?

Many people use a graphic tablet, especially if they have a 'traditional' background like drawing on paper. I tried using one many years ago and found it didn't work for me, but I'm not an artist. Unfortunately I think this is a situation where it depends on how YOU find using a tablet and not other peoples experience.

Other people who do use tablets may well be able to add suggestions on how they use it in their creative process.

For organic modelling I prefer to use Forger on my iPad. Same thing applies to any painting with Affinity programs.  In Blender (or any other parametric design programs) I use a mouse. Because there I usually move stuff around, type numbers and click on buttons.

For my hobby level usage this setup works best for me.

I use the Wacom intuos pro, tablets take a bit of getting used to but once you are used to it you won't go back.

tablet use for more then 20 years now.

Enjoy

IMHO, what you need kind of depends on the type of 3D Models you do and how you approach them... If you're into sculpting organic figures then yes, a tablet will most likely be the bare minimum what you need to get things done in a timely manner due to the pen's pressure sensitivity ( so yea... don't buy shit that only has an ON/OFF pressure sensitivity... Get something in the 1024+ range and be aware that there too are diminishing returns with such a feature ).

A step up from a simple Tablet may be a penenabled Monitor like the Wacom Cintiq line - I for one own the, out of production, Cintiq 24HD Touch and while I've never used it for 3D Modelling, I can say they're a joy to work with/on due to their paper like surface ( sadly though it'll eat your pen nibs like no one's business 😅 )

If you're more into practical stuff, then CAD software will be your better companion and with software catering to that ( I swear on Fusion 360 ) you'll instead want to glance over at 3DConnexion of which I own a SpaceMouse Enterprise ( the price is in the name but they have cheaper alternatives ) allowing you to literally handle the 3D Model ( or navigating the 3D Environment ) like it is in your hand.

If you EVER saw a YouTube video of some bloke crazily navigating a CAD ( or any other 3D Environment like the PrusaSlicer ) program with weird fluid and effortless navigation, then chances are he was using a SpaceMouse from 3DConnexion.

If you want non-organic modeling, using Shapr3D on an iPad that can use the pencil is a pleasure. It's the best direct modeling app I've used and is reason enough to purchase an iPad. They also now offer a Mac app, so you can totally use a graphic tablet with that version instead of an iPad.

The choices are to numerous, you have to pick something and get used to it, decide whats right for you. no one here is wrong or right, all of these suggestions are valid, I have created new tooling that never existed before, with patents and the whole nine yards. it's your call these are only suggestions you asked for. just get something and play, none ARE more valid then the other.

Good luck

Of course you could. But it would be good according on what type 3d modeling you want to do. And it will be good result only if you have much experience. Personally I used drawing tablet for years to doing some templates for crello (you can see and some of them here https://create.vista.com/colors/color-names/dark-blue/ ) and when I started drawing some 3d models, especially animals in move, the resuld was quite good. It's good thing. Now I want to try drawing in VR glasses. Have someone tried this yet?

First of all, it is necessary to mention the elements connected to the work itself. And the next ones are connected to the main aspects here

RE:

I have a XP-Pen Deco Pro tablet for sculpting, texture painting, and compositing. Works really well for some tasks but much of the time I'm just using my 3D mouse. I almost scream if I don't have one while compositing or something like Photoshop.

You don't have to get a huge one, but i'd recommend you do not get a small one. They can be difficult to use on precise movements when they're too small.
