If I get original model and add e.g. hole this is a Remix.

It I set different slicing oprions - it is NOT a remix.

If I look at a model and design something anew that looks similar - is is a remix or not? This is signifficant when original author reject remixes.

Generally a remix involves a significant change to the original design.  Just adding a hole to turn a model into a pendant or a keytag probably isn't enough; reinforcing the part around the hole might be.  Resizing or changing printing suggestions are not reworkings either and should be added as comments to the original.  Modifying a part to fit a different connector is a reworking as is combining two prints into a larger one.

It is impossible to copyright an idea so re-engineering is usually OK but fictional characters and merchandise can be copyrighted so reworking film merchandise can attract legal attention as can 'passing off' any part as being by the original design company - eg putting a car company logo on a part can cause considerable trouble.  Breaching patents by copying registered function is another no-no, patents don't last long so this only applies for a few years depending on renewals - most patents that have been around since the last century will have expired.

Cheerio,

Thank you very much. I know that e.g. Harry Potter hat is copyrighted.

For example this my object is a completely new design that in fact is not a remix: https://www.printables.com/model/687534-new-spring-for-fully-printable-otf-fidget-toy/files Posting it as a remix is convenient, because it helps other users to orient.

And this is a true remix, because this my object incorporated original STL into a new design https://www.printables.com/model/620993-hybrid-fan-shroud-for-mk3s

The main reason for this question was this discussion: https://www.printables.com/model/634957-rats-of-wistar-insert/comments/1482191 - I had original intention to repair a model. It is a very simple box, with problematic part to print. When remix is not allowed here I can use FreeCAD and design something visually similar and publish it as my own original design.
