Buy Palette 3 Pro or wait for a possible next version of Prusa MMU?

Before I buy Palette 3 I would like to know: Is Prusa working on any new, improved and more reliable MMU?

I have not heard anything about it but maybe that is not necessary if rumours about the next Prusa Printer are accurate. Not sure.

What I do know for sure is that my MMU2s works like a charm.

Mk3s MMU2s, Voron 0.1, Voron 2.4

I think if you count the number of fully happy tinkerers using the MMU/MMU2, you might fill up all most the digits on your hands; it'll be a while before you need to start using toes. /s - sorta

What rumors about any new Prusa printer?

I did preorder a Palette 3 Pro. Was too disenchanted with the MMU2 and willing to give an alternative approach a try.

@fuchsr

Let me us know what you think once it is installed - and working.

Their website doesn't really explain well the work flow required to print colors - at least I haven't found that magic link yet. E.g., is the stl loaded into a third party paint program when colors are added to surfaces (that's what I saw in one of their videos)? Or, do you need to build parts as objects then assign color similar to the MMU workflow?  And then, clearly there is some post processing to snip the filaments to length and sync to the printer extruder -- yikes -- can you say problematic?

But - the Pro looks like a wonderful and professional product; one suitable for the $5k Razer printers, too. One that might be worth the steep but within normal budget price point.

I looked at their version 2 a while ago but didn't progress the idea.  I noticed @joantabb mentioned using one in another thread so it prompted me to have another look.  I too thought their own website didn't really explained the process.

@tim-2 - theres a few videos by the same bloke which gives an understandable overview. On the first one about 8:20 in shows importing the slicer settings and altering some settings plus defining the colours:

@lize

Thanks for that link. Very informative.

Definitely a radical change in work flow. Learning their slicer, and losing some of Prusa's feature would be painful.  Since I have done exactly one color print to date, and that was mostly to figure out how to use Joan's color change methods, the purchase would be entirely a frill. On the other side of that coin, I haven't done colored models because of the complexity of design, slice, and manual filament changes being overwhelming: not because I haven't wanted things colored.  lol.

MMU2S

My son asked for one so I bought an MMU2S.  I also bought him a MK3S+.  Time tinkering starts now.
