Best non-prusa for where prusa won't go.....
Hi folks,
Loving my Prusa Mk3 since I bought it last year, however have been hitting size limitations - eg 3d printed open source violin that requires a large bed than it has. So looking for a larger format printer to add to the arsenal.
I know people have clamoured previously for Prusa to release a larger format printer, but it appears they're not budging and are focusing on SLA and some folks claim that it'd be too unstable if they went larger, which I find confusing give plenty of other brands getting very strong reviews for much less money with larger format printers (eg Creality CR-10 range). Besides I'm not sure 'stability' of experience stacks given the experience of prusa multi-material users...!
So I'd LOVE Prusa to just release a larger format printer, but given it appears people have been asking for years to no avail, I'm starting to look elsewhere.
Creality CR-10 appears to be very well reviewed in general - and they've just released the CR-10 max which appears to tick all the boxes - any thoughts / ideas on other brands? Ideally I'd need 35cm in at least one direction to expand print size decently.
Oh and be delighted if Josef appears to just say 'wait a few months'....... 😉

Maybe start looking to build your own.
You have a printer to make parts, you can use a lot of what you already have, maybe a design based on BEAR frame upgrade but with longer extrusions.
I would definitely look at a more powerful control board ie: https://www.thing-printer.com/revolve/
or a Duet
Stepper motors from : https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/
Rods and bearings to suit
Hot end, E3d or Mosquito.
etc
Just an idea....
Normal people believe that if it ainât broke, donât fix it. Engineers believe that if it ainât broke, it doesnât have enough features yet.
