beginner build problem

Hi,
My ten year old son saved two years to buy his printer. We are trying to start to build it and this sounds like such a simple and stupid question but here it is.
We cannot seem to get the screws to reach the nuts when we are attaching any of the orange parts to the frame!
They just don't seem to be long enough.
What are we doing wrong?
My poor son is getting so frustrated he is almost giving up and we have only just started?

Please help this non technically struggling father!

Thanks,

Matt

Re: beginner build problem

you must have the wrong screws. frame screws should be rounded. well at least on a mk3

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

First if you feel stumped at any point go to one of the online Prusa store pages and in the lower right corner you will see the word CHAT. Click on that and input your kit order number and an expert will be with you soon. They man the Chat system 24-7-365 and are super helpful and quicker than using this forum.
With a metric rule or metric digital caliper measure the fasteners and you will find that in the assembly instructions the required length and type are called out for each step. Or you can just hold them up to their illustration as you can see here
Take it slowly and think about each step
use the online version of the assembly manual and be sure to read the comments for each step before you do it.

All the boxes and bags including parts for the build are labelled.

Number (or numbers) in the header tells you for which chapter you'll need that bag (or box).

Most of the labels are scaled 1:1 and can be used to identify the part 🙂

Every type of fastener is included in a separate special bag.

If you lose a screw when building, use one from this Spares bag

step by step
take a look at this too

I think what Matt might have run into are tight fittings for the nuts. I've had that many times putting together both of my MK3s. Two things you need to do, first you need to view each part for stray plastic. Second, sometimes the holes are so tight you need to pull the nut through.
Use a longer bolt to connect to the nut and then pull it all the way until it is seated.

Re: beginner build problem

David a good point about the captive nuts but he says the problem is attaching the plastic parts to the metal ones. On my frame I noticed that the powder coating had made starting the screws into it hard...I have a full set of metric taps and dies so I just cleaned the ones like that with the proper tap... but you can turn a screw into a thread chaser just take a fine triangle file and file a notch across the first 2 or 3 turns of the screw threads and use that as a thread chaser this does not harm the screw from then being used. I hope the OP gets back and sees that we have tried to help it is no fun for a kid to get frustrated on his first big maker project.
