Baking soda and super glue providing quick, high strength bond.

For many here, this is an interesting bonding solution.  Can be used to repair parts as well.  I wanted to share this as I found it interesting and may be quite useful and quick.

Hello,

Wow, this is amazing! I never knew that super glue and baking soda could react so well together. I tried this hack on a broken ceramic vase and it worked like magic. The bond was hard and smooth, and I could even sand and paint over it. Thanks for sharing this awesome tip! 👍👍👍

By mixing super glue with baking soda, you can achieve a faster curing time and potentially strengthen the bond.

Here’s how it works:

Accelerated Bonding: The reaction is almost instantaneous when you combine baking soda with super glue. The baking soda acts as an accelerator, kickstarting the polymerization process. This rapid setting occurs due to an exothermic reaction, which generates heat and evaporates moisture, essential for quick polymerization.

Enhanced Strength: While there’s no definitive evidence that baking soda significantly increases the bond strength when mixed with super glue, the tensile strength of super glue alone is already impressive. However, this combination is often used for filling gaps and cracks. Apply a few drops of super glue to the area, sprinkle a pinch of baking soda over it, and witness the bond cure within seconds. The resulting white bond is rock-hard and reputed to have higher tensile strength than pure cyanoacrylate. It’s an economical and speedy solution for repairing cracked plastic parts and reinforcing structures.

Paintable and Sandable: The cyanoacrylate-baking soda bond can be easily painted and sanded, unlike plain superglue. Baking soda imparts a texture that facilitates these finishing touches.

Best Regards
