RE: Anyone try Diamondback nozzles?

After completing the first temperature tower with Fillamentum PLA I have to say I am impressed. I tested from 210°C down to 185°C and it managed to print the entire tower without failure. With the Brass nozzle I tended to get problems at below 200°C. (Official recommendation with stock brass ist 190-210°X).

Maybe I am just imagining it but I also have the impression top layers are a bit smoother.

I saw a new nozzle on Amazon.  Has anyone tried a Diamondback nozzle?

I am looking for honest opinions before I buy one.

Yeah , It easily swaps into my hotend, and prints smoothly with minimal slicer adjustment. Worth the price to not have to worry about my nozzle wearing down from abrasive filaments and needing replacement.

I have a Diamondback 0.6 nozzle. I like it a lot. There is a facebook group for Diamondback nozzle users.

As the diamond stuff conducts heat very well. You often should set the temperature lower then reccomended.

I used this nozzle. Easily swaps into my hotend, and prints smoothly with minimal slicer adjustment. It will handle every filiment I throw at it. I print so much PCCF I have made back my money twice!

I picked one up for my mk3s+ because I needed a new nozzle after 1 year of printing on the OEM one. I also wanted to start printing with glow in the dark filament. It printed perfectly with the default profiles. As soon as my enclosure comes in I am going to start printing more abrasive composites. I'm definitely sold in not having to worry about nozzle changes, not having a gunked up nozzle ruin prints and bought a second one for my mini+.

What diameter did you order?

I bought .4mm nozzles. I pretty much only print in this size, I have other size brass nozzles if I ever really need a different diameter.

I swapped my nozzle with the diamondback on my MK3+ and am having odd issues with what I think is under extrusion issues. I am pretty new to this and unsure how to fix it and if that is really the problem I am having. What settings did you tweak? My only idea is to check the extrusion length. Also I’ve noticed that when the hotend reaches temp I am getting filament extruded slowly and adding trash to my first layer.

AirlineJoe, that sounds like you haven't fitted the nozzle correctly.  That can cause under extrusion and will certainly be the cause of plastic slowly leaking out and falling onto the print.

Did you lower the printing temperature for the DiamondBack? I could print like 10 degree Celsius lower then with brass. Some people go even lower. Like 20 degrees Celsius lower than with brass. I think, my retraction was also increased a bit. I would print print a temperature tower. Don't be surprised when you see the best temperature is below the temperature that the filament producer recommends.

hello! do you found a solution for this nozzle?.. I'm trying the .6mm and it is impossible for me.. on the mk3.. not able to get a good first layer.. thank you so much in advance..

I have the .4 diamondback nozzle and I am running 10 degrees lower than recommended settings on my filament. I like that the tip does not want to collect filament on it. So far I have ran this nozzle with wonderful results.

I have not had to adjust my setting lower, but I have only been using one for 1 weeks.

RE: Anyone try Diamondback nozzles?

I most definitely have fitted the nozzle correctly… I can get okay results with my first layer, but it’s spotty. I’ve read that changing the gcode keeps the the nozzle from ozzing out. ( it’s not ozzing out the sides but thru where the filament comes out normally, changed the starting temp lower and had some success with keeping it from doing it.) as far as the under extrusion issue, I now believe it’s actually just getting the first layer to stick to the build plate. Not sure why it would change from a normal nozzle to these but it does. I have 5 different diamond back nozzles and 5 different printers. I’ve tried them and all and they all have the same problems. It really may be that they are great for filament other than PETG and PLA. I will continue to try things out and actually try abrasive filament and see if it’s different.

RE: Anyone try Diamondback nozzles?

Hey AirlineJoe,

It is very strange that you have 5 different printers and 5 different Diamondback nozzles and have issues with all of them.
Not sure if you have facebook. Otherwise this group might be good. As it way easier to shared pictures there.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/diamondbacknozzleusers/

How much did you lower your temperature? I mostly did more then 10 degrees lower.
I have only printed normal PLA, normal PETG and wood PLA with the diamondback nozzle so far.

Just to be sure? Did you adjust your Z-level? As far as I know all Diamondback nozzles have the same height. But they might not be the same height as your older nozzles.

RE: Anyone try Diamondback nozzles?

The Diamondback nozzle has a greater tendency to ooze because of its low friction. Possibly that is more pronounced for 0.6 than the 0.4 mm nozzle I have. I agree with Darksteel83 though. Z-offset should be recalibrated when changing nozzles, even if theoretically it should not change. The changing of nozzles itself can offset the extruder slightly by some µm. The other thing is testing the temperature offset. The diamondback has a lower temperature optimum than regular brass nozzles. If that does not help, I would check if modifying retraction settings can help.

Personally, I have no problem with first layer quality with PLA and the Diamondback.

RE: Anyone try Diamondback nozzles?

Any of you folks has direct experience with these diamondback nozzles and tungsten carbide nozzles ?.

If so, what’s you opinion in the matter ?: ( pros and cons of both types, long term use, value per money, etc )

RE: Anyone try Diamondback nozzles?

I have no direct experience with tungsten carbide nozzles but it is my understanding that they are for most use cases the more economic option. The diamondback has an edge over tungsten carbide nozzles when it comes to heat transfer (especially at the tip) and super low friction at the tip (can be both an advantage and disadvantage though, depending on the material and your requirements). In terms of wear, I doubt either of those shows much wear at all. The Diamondback has the main body made of brass, so there could be more internal wear there but in the brass section of the nozzle there is no diameter reduction taking place so abrasion should not be that much of an issue. Tungsten carbide nozzles, the good ones at least, are solidly made from the same material so everything is equally hard. Another advantage is that while the diamond tip is not nearly as prone to cracking as a ruby, tungsten carbide has basically zero chance of cracking when you crash the nozzle into the bed or something.
