Any Fusion 360 Power Users?

Are there any Fusion 360 power users around? I have a few questions I am not quite sure how to ask, but here they are:

Question 1) Is it just me, or does anyone else have issues with their mouse? I try to draw a constrained line, only for it to make a teeny tiny baby line I dont see then my line, which doesn't constrain because of the small added line.  Also, I keep trying to change a file from editable to read only and every time I select it the program de-selects it... It's like my left click is on rapid fire. It's just a simple logi wired mouse.

Question 2) I am not sure what you call it, but I have a question about the white circles at the end of a line. A node maybe? Sometimes when I draw a line on my sketch, and I try to drag the little white dot, say I want to connect it with the edge of a square or circle, it doesn't want to snap and connect. It will drag just short or just too far. And I haven't found a shortcut key to force it to connect/snap...

Probably not a power user but anyway:

1) sounds like a problem with your mouse to me. You can check with an online mouse tester if there are multiple clicks registered for one physical click, I'va already had this with a mouse once.

2) Haven't had that problem yet. Are the objects you're trying to snap to on the same sketch that you're editing. Snap to bodies doesn't work, you have to create a projection on your sketch first

You might have a look at the fusion360 course here:

https://www.prusa3d.com/product/3d-modeling-in-autodesk-fusion/

Sure, it costs money but it will save you a lot of frustration and gain you a lot of fun and satisfaction modelling and printing your own products.

Many many youtube video's available too but quality is not always guaranteed.

Loving the learning curve!

White circles at the end of a line always mean that this line has not yet been assigned a dependency with this endpoint. When you draw a line freely in a sketch, you will have a blue line and white circles at the end.You can move, extend, and rotate them as you wish. This is not ideal for a complex sketch. However, if you center this line horizontally, specify a length, and assign one of the two points to the origin, the line and the circle will turn black.

2.) I wanna say I have the problem on the same sketch. Though a projection might be the case too. It happens often.

I have been watching a lot of Youtube tutorials lately on various 3D printed things.

Another thing I don't understand is this model I am working on here. I am trying to draw something on the highlighted surface but Fusion will not let me make a sketch on that plane.

So I think I am just going to make a separate part and add it. Ultimately that's what I am going to do anyway. I just find it curious I can draw to this point but no further...

If it's like FreeCAD (which is a GIMP-like) clone of Fusion 360, you can't sketch on a surface unless it's completely flat, i.e. a plane. You can try attaching a data plane (or I guess a reference plane) and try sketching on that instead.

This is the same in Fusion.

Also, FreeCAD has been around for 10 years before Fusion 360 was released, so calling it a clone isn't quite correct, I think

Well that would explain it. I don't have a copy of the model right now, so I will check it later. But I do have rounded edges.

Fair enough. They are remarkably similar. I prefer FreeCAD (when it doesn't crash) it took me maybe an hour to move over and start using Fusion 360. Even the UI's are pretty much the same (within reason).

I use Fusion 360 because it also gives me access to, basically, Eagle. Even though Eagle was sooooo much better before Auto Desk got it. Eagle is easy. Fusion is... Not.

And I haven't found a shortcut key to force it to connect/snap...

You can choose the coincident constraint and select both the white line end point and the edge of whatever you want to connect it to.

Ooooh! I'm gonna have to remember this. I'm trying to get better at constraints (when it makes sense to use them)

For dynamic stuff, such as that head part I am working on, I leave it unconstrained in a lot of places. But this constraint method seems to solve that problem.

I think I know now why I cannot select certain surfaces for creating a sketch plain. They were generated using lofts. I'll have to use a different method.

I had a similar experience, but in the OSS world. I use KiCad for my EDA. I started using FreeCAD because someone made a workbench for FreeCAD (KiCadStepUp workbench) to make the bidirectional transfer of 3D information between KiCad and FreeCAD automated. This helps loading component 3D models to tweak (remix) for use on other models, load boards into KiCad to create mounting solutions in FreeCAD, and use FreeCAD as an intermediary to send an assembly to Blender for ray tracing and animation (though KiCad has a good enough 3D engine to create good static renders of individual boards, populated or not).

But, me thinks I'm getting a bit off topic. 😉

I know that the last update or two of Fusion 360 implemented some changes people are not happy about. The flow of model building was so much easier a month ago. Now there are annoying popups and prompts to make any new file. Hope they address that.

One thing I was trying to do last night, is I finished a model and I printed it. Only in retrospect, the model is just too larger. So I wanted to try to scale down my assembly.

I couldn't for the life of me do so... To just resize my model assembly to ~70% of it's scale to see if it would scale better. I ended up having to export a STL of the entire assembly and re-import it as a mesh to play with the scale... That doesn't seem right. I'll look into that later.

You should have seen the first iterations of the new design intent workflows... I'm in the insider program, and I tell you it was just...bad.

but kudos to Autodesk. They actually listened to the pretty strong feedback and made improvements that made it not great but tolerable.

Obviously, the target for the changes are corporate customers that have design teams  with more complex design flows than most of us here.

All I know is I used to be able to easily drag and drop models into other models and make assemblies. Now, it's a chore.

I set my default to hybrid, and it's pretty much the way it was before. With the exception of the annoying huge dialog box when I open the app.

I changed this setting to hybrid. That is an improvement. Thanks.

Another odd thing Fusion does is the selection tool is wonky. Sometimes I will go to rename a body or a sketch and it just wont let me select them. Other times I will get ghost images of parts that aren't even enabled in my timeline, yet I can't disable them without closing the model.

It's a powerful software but has a lot of room to grow. I really want to be able to run more than one instance of Fusion 360... The project above I am working on right now I am making major changes to which is resulting in me redrawing it, and it would be so useful to have new and old side by side to compare against as I go. But as far as I know you can't do that without two PC's.

I'd love to go back to the days of software not being online, too. Where I could double click the file and open it. Not require a cloud. But that's just me screaming into the sky.
