a little update on some things to come
Ummm... Hiya, hello and greetings... Remember me???
I want to apologize for the long absence of updates and interactions. My workload has increased and things got shuffled around. It's not an excuse, but just letting you know the reason why for the silence on my side of things. I have things more manageable and a schedule that has time for the forums.
I wanted to give you a brief rundown on some planned updates to the forums that will be happening over time. Right now they are in the planning stages to see what can be done and how to implement them to the forums so I can not give any set time when they will be done and I would like to also get your feedback on these few ideas and also if you have any suggestions I am all ears.
- Move the Covid 19 discussion thread a bit further down the list of topics. This does not mean that myself or the company does not see Covid as a serious issue and are not closing out the thread. Covid has unfortunately became a part of everyday life and we would like to try and help bring some other things back into the main fold.
- Create a new section of the forums for Printables.com with a similar structure as the others so there can be one location for you to post in there.
- More interactions from my side with the forums to try and make it more engaging for the people visiting. Also if you have ideas, please let me know one way or another.
- The forums is schedule for another update at some point this year and once that is done, there should be more integration of the forums with other sections of the entire site so its more of a cohesive presence.
That is just a small list of things. The first 2 will be happening soon and the rest are vauge (yes I know) but are also long term plans. But let me know what you would like to see. Perhaps some forum exclusive things? Articles created for new users? different sorts of projects? Features on active forum users who create some amazing things? The forums are here for the community so community... What would you like? (within reason.... I would love a million dollars, but I don't see that happening anytime soon) 🙂

RE: a little update on some things to come
Please address the file upload problems. Given the nature of these forums, it should be way easier to upload .3mf and other related files. It seem like a significant percentage of the posts here are explanations of how to upload files.
RE: a little update on some things to come
As noted in several forum posts, the star rating does not show up reliably for makes for many people. I’m on a recent MacOS, using Safari & FireFox and it often will not show the star rating, even if I download the model multiple times. I am running no 3rd party adware or malware detection and I have no special security settings turn on in the browsers. It just doesn’t work consistently.
RE: a little update on some things to come
Hi Shane, thanks for posting.
There should be a ‘READ THIS FIRST’ new member intro page to instruct new users on forum rules and etiquette. This should be linked to the sign up routine. This intro page should include search instructions as many new users post the same questions that have been asked and answered over and over again.
Improve the search function so people can more easily find threads that match their issues.
Add sticky topics to the top of certain pages with instructions on how to clean your print sheet, how to dial in live Z value, how to get a perfect first layer, how to know when to dry your filament, etc. These are recurring themes that all have received excellent responses over the years, some of which should be captured and included in said sticky topics. Links to help pages and videos would be a useful tool.
Political discourse has no place in these (help) forums. Some other forums have specific areas designated for political discussion and are clearly labeled as such. If this forum wants to create discussion areas for non Prusa or non 3D printing topics, so be it. Otherwise members should be advised to keep their personal opinions and social / political / world view commentary out of general discussions.
More frequent updates from Prusa direct would be welcome. I realize this is a user-to-user forum and not ‘officially’ monitored by Prusa, but you must be aware of the mounting frustration surrounding the lack of information on a variety of subjects (I’m looking at you, XL), primarily surrounding announcements for new products, updates, bug fixes, etc.
Generally speaking, the community here are helpful and respectful of one another. I don’t think I’ve engaged in any other online forum that has so many genuinely knowledgeable, selfless, and patient members. My thanks go out to all of those who take time out of their lives to come here and help both the new users and those of us still trying to master the art of 3D printing. Thanks also to the mods who contribute so much themselves, as well as helping to keep discussions on track.
Cheers

Forum section for Printables. At last! Makes sense.
Other changes:
- Allow uploads of 3mf files. No more having to explain to zip up files.
- Don't delete photo attachments to old posts! Those are valuable information.
- Have a "stay logged in" option or at least log people out less frequently.
- Allow Markdown formatting or float the styles bar of the editing panes so I don't have to scroll back to format text on long posts.
More interactions from my side with the forums to try and make it more engaging for the people visiting.
For the love of god, don't do anything stupid like the printable flash contests on this site!
Conpared to Reddit or Discourse, the quality of questions and answers is surprisingly high here, no need to dilute it with silly polls or other inane "fun" activities.

Printables section: good.
Add my call to those from @jimb & @fuchsr: enable .3mf uploads.
Link to the forums from more pages around Prusa's sites.
But please keep it simple here.
Cheerio,
RE: a little update on some things to come
For my serious suggestions.
- Ability to mute users on the forum.
- Have the forum keep and host pictures (yes, I know, that's $$).
- Add the ability to paste images into the message (an example of a forum software that handles this well is whatever Keebtalk.com is using).

RE: a little update on some things to come
For the common requests like the file uploads, those are already noted.
For the bits about the file retention, I will see what can be done. Most were removed not to save money / space, but because we noticed somethings and had to take action, but we are working on a way to prevent such things again while keeping forum related files.
I can try and provide a "whats coming" sort of post about updates and all, but there are times where things are released and I basically know when I have to make a post about them in the forums, so I could miss a few things. But I can give it a try. I will need time to set that up.
As far as expanding the forums, that is in the works as well, and yes, we will try and keep it simple as well 🙂

RE: a little update on some things to come
I find it supper interesting
that someone can simply hichack a STL and THE Image from a webside and upload it here
Winning a contest ((tessel)) without doing anything!
There is no Controll poiint as far as i know
AND others that got nativ language on TAG simply copy from and do a miner change with the right TAG getting 10times more downloads then the Origin
OK that is the BAD side of this prusameters
Positiv someone can get a Color sometimes he never woudt buy on pricing
RE: a little update on some things to come
If you see uploads on Printables that you feel are misplaced, stolen or otherwise incorrect then use the "Report..." option to report them to a moderator. The "Report..." option is shown when you click on the three vertical dots next to the uploads title on it's details page.
RE: a little update on some things to come
Several months ago, maybe a year now. A post was made by you about that we would like to see in the forums, not a single one of those requests came to be. So I guess your just going to do whatever, and it's seemingly nice that you ask for our opinions, the forum users options, but for those of us paying attention, it's not looking good for you, since we can see you don't mean how your pretending to be. whatever, I guess this is the way companies are going to treat there customers and the community, new users won't be able to see it until it's to late.
RE: a little update on some things to come
Make it posible to get GIF running to show some more as of prints
FAQ : about the system IT took near a week to get around to this meter system on howto order and spend this meters
A simple Imagesearch for the Titel images in printables woudt give so many faults SOME are posting prints over and over.
IT is good that the meter system takles tis on a manuell alowence and overloog on the timeline and prints.
Servercost vs Filesize vs Worktime vs cookies
there are files on 250MB that cout be easy below 50Mb same outcome
today the printables and prusa3d set 15 cookies on login without the google spy cookies it is imposible to log on .
so Servercost is payed by the Advertising Low Filesizes reduce this Cost and also the NEED of this ADS
RE: a little update on some things to come
@magig_i3prusa
You have been able to add .gifs to this forum for ever, you need to get your stuff straight before posting. Your making us look bad. Many request things more impotent then this person, that doesn't understand, have been made and could actually improve this community driven forum. look at the requests made to the previously made post that you have deleted, to improve the community, if you have lost it no worries, I have a copy of it as I anticipated your loss of this knowledge.
RE: a little update on some things to come
I have a suggestion for Printables.com. Is there a possibility to create a section like Educational or a Category where is possible to include all objects made for people with handicap? A general category for all handicap related. I searched various thing for a friend but it was a waste of time, there is a lot of confusion.
It will be also a great thing like a new contest that can sensitize this argument.

This is a great idea. I would also love to see a couple of related things on Printables.com:
- A section dedicated to pets with disabilities. I am myself working on a cat bowl for cats who had a mandibulectomy surgery
- This is going to be difficult to create, but I would love to have a section where I could see a list of people in need of 3d printed devices for their health and disability and where I would be able to print one of these devices and ship it to them. Think about Printables for good.
RE: a little update on some things to come
So for the educational part, there is a section already on learning and education on pintables.
https://www.printables.com/model?category=90
For the handicap equipment / tools, while it is a great cause, there are already several sites that have similar programs already. I would recommend going to those sites because you will have different locations with different guidelines as far as what is and is not possible for equipment, have the resources already available to match recipients with projects (since we are international there are multiple privacy rules that would be difficult to have medial information stored) and have enough long time members that would be a great source of information to assist people who are new to helping. There are a few off the top of my head.

Yes, I wrote that post, recorded the feedback and was submitted it and those changes will be coming to the next update to the forums. I brought up this topic not so much for new features to add as they have been covered, but more so for new topics, sections, and other things while waiting for the forum itself to be updated. I apologize if you are not happy with the rate the changes are coming, but I believe if I start trying to explain somethings, it would not be helpful.
As far as me pretending or what not, everyone has their own views and opinions, but I can assure you that you are incorrect to assume that I am pretending or something else, you are incorrect in that matter.

RE: a little update on some things to come
Just checking in on the status of plans for improvement to the forums
The first 2 will be happening soon
COVID seems gone, but the new forum for printables.com hasn't arrived yet. I hope this is still in the works.
Plus, ANOTHER plug for allowing 3mf uploads. This (or rather, lack thereof) is the #1 annoying "feature" here and generates so much noise as you have to explain over and over again how to zip files to get them accepted by the forum software. As has been pointed out many times, a 3mf file is in fact a zip file, so forcing someone to zip it (again) serves no purpose, certainly no security purpose.

I hope my number 1 wish will be implemented.

RE: a little update on some things to come
There seems to be an issue with responding to topics in certain forums.
In the Mini forum I can't reply to any of the posts that aren't in the dedicated categories.
Is this a good pplace to report this issue?
