HueForge - First print: A new rabbit hole to fall into!
HueForge, I thought this might be one of the neatest, coolest, unique ideas and I had to play with it. Aside from the software being somewhat early in development, it works really well and am looking forward to where it goes in the future.
My first HueForge print. I don't keep a large stash of filaments, especially in random colors so I made due with what I have. These are the ones used:
- Hatchbox
- Black
- White
- Copper
- Gold
- Orange
- Red
- Prusa Pearl Blue
- Old and from well before Prusament was a thing)
- 3D Solutech Natural Clear
- Also old and may not be around anymore: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/vkozfr/what_happened_to_the_3d_solutech_brand/
- It was surprising how much of a change this makes in HueForge. It is far from clear, more like a semi-translucent
The following colors are in order, bottom to top in the HueForge "painting"
The white of the eye: Natural Clear, White
Collar reflector: Pearl Blue, Natural Clear, White
Collar: Black (no swatch), Natural Clear, Red, White
Face: Black (no swatch), Copper, Orange, Gold, White
The final print (not glued yet).
I thought this was an excellent first attempt with the colors I have on hand and limiting each print to the five tool heads/colors of the XL. The white on the cheek surprised me a bit as it seems much more pronounced than what HueForge showed:
But after looking at it in this context, maybe not. Yes that is our dog, Callie. She granted me permission to put her mug on the interweb 🤣
Bottom line is this is a lot of fun and would make cool gifts but if you want to sell them you'll need something more than the personal license. I thought I'd share my first experience with this neat piece of software.
oh, one last thing.... this was printed with 0.6 nozzles. The 0.4 nozzles for the XL were ordered a few weeks ago and actually arrived while this was printing. I think it could be even better with the 0.4's.
Thanks for looking!
