That's nice, still slicing with Ks ?

Yes, or course 😀

Hence variable layers and variable purge and a relatively small waste tower.

Just printing some simple models for our next exhibition in 3 weeks time.

On the purge, is that after you print that color or before? I've always had issues with lighter colors getting bled into from the darker colors using Slic3r. Even adjusting the size of the purge tower hasn't eliminated it.

Richard. My post processor works somewhat differently to the Slic3r tower.

After printing a colour, the extruder moves to the tower (with an optional additional 2mm retract to reduce stringing). The outside of the purge area is printed whilst reducing the temperature and the filament is then unloaded.

The new filament is loaded and the purge happens within the box perimeters. The purge amount is specified by the slicer (filament name) as a length in mm. Opaque darker colours need only 20mm of purge, but lighter, transparent colours can require 80mm.

During the purge, the temperature is raised and then lowered, with 2 or 3 5mm retractions happening to ensure the purge is clean.

After the purge, the extruder is moved back to the model, again with the optional additional 2mm retraction.

The purge tower is square and is printed in alternate directions. The size of the tower depends on the total purge length for each layer (and therefore layer height). Layers where the purge tower is not full include sparse purging. Layers with no tool change are very sparsely printed, with the layer prior to a tool change being less sparse.

Really it's best to try it out...

The big advantages with this method are the temp changes, retractions and variable purge lengths.

Peter,

Ok, ok. I'll invest some time this weekend in KISS and your post processor. Don't know if my brain is ready for it, but I'll try again.

Can I assume that the latest version of the available KISS is fine to use? Also, I believe I still have the link to your files but if you would send me a pm so I can grab your post processor I would appreciate it.

Richard

I'd also like to try KISS on some multimaterial prints this weekend, could I get a PM with those files as well?

Thanks!

It's all on the KISS site: http://www.kisslicer.com/

Have a look around, especially the "Preconfigured Profiles" section. But bare in mind that you need a PRO license for multiple extruders
