The reason I bought a 3D printer
Hi folks,
This one took a while, and its idea was the reason I got a 3D printer in the first place.
Presenting this full scale chess set, printed entirely on a Prusa Mini+, using models pulled from the 1996 PC game Quake, and integrating the wonderful mini chess tube designs of 3Demon from his amazing Travel Chess Tube print. Every piece is in a unique pose, and the black (blue) pieces are the original line-up from the Quake mod, Quess.
98 6mm x 2mm disc magnets embedded in the modular, multi-colour board and set pieces, 176 3mm x 1mm disc magnets in the board and edge pieces to align and keep it all held together while you play.
Filaments used were all Prusament PLA; Pineapple Yellow, Royal Blue, Jet Black, Galaxy Purple, Lipstick Red, and Azure Blue.
All board pieces and edges were modelled in PrusaSlicer, which is a really effective and powerful modelling tool for basic users like myself.
Solved some fun problems getting this finished like; embedding magnets in a print, using the negative volume tool in PrusaSlicer, resuming a failed print from a specific line of gcode, and how to apply the right amount of cyanoacrylate to the base of each piece to avoid having to peel it off my fingers for the entire next day. (Next time, these magnets are going inside the print!)
Thanks for taking the time to view my print. I'm really happy with the way it turned out!
I like it, and not just because I love Chess. I like your reason for buying the tool and learning how to use it.
The complementary colors don't hurt either.

Congratulations, what a worthy reason to "ruin" your life with a 3D printer 😉

Hey r1nce,
This looks great! I also applaud you for the reason why you decided to enter the world of 3D printing.
