Re: Some Nice MK2 Prints

Wow very impressive for 0.2mm layer height! I've just purchased Simpify3D and haven't yet printed anything, but now i'm pretty excited to give it a shot. Are results truly that much better than something like Slic3r? How much tweaking did you do to get those results and happen to have any tips for a new S3D user?

Nice job!! 😎

Really nice, so clean! I'm also curious to hear how much of that quality you attribute to Simplify3D, vs other factors like fine tuning of settings, printer calibration, and filament. I'm getting pretty good prints from Cura, but if you think Simplify3D can make them that good without doing anything else special, you have me interested.

Sorry for delay, in replay...

Settings
Used the standard settings for S3D posted on the forum with changes:
Top Solid Layers 3
Bottom Solid Layers 3
Outline Shells 3

Outline Under speed 60%

Avoid crossing outline for travel moves ticked

Filament < the single most important part of printing awesome prints...
fillamentum PLA @ 195c is the best filament.
(I am the UK distributor so totally bias)

Slicers
S3D is the best end of story..
I print about 100+ orders per month and have used every single slicer and nothing even comes close, the way it does supports with all extra features is perfect and is not matched... I printed files with 20 separate processes to make some horrible models print in S3D which are orders I would of had to declined if it was not for S3D, its payed for itself 100 x times now...

Don't get me wrong you can get good prints with other slicers with simple files, but more complex prints they just end up pissing you off with supports that are welded to the side of a model or for no reason its does not bridge a gap correctly etc....

Can you cut large objects that don't fit based on z axis in S3D?

I find it easier to use NetFabb basic (and run a repair at the same time) to cut objects (or use Tinkercad if the files are small enough).

And as far as slicers are concerned, I do rather think that is a very personal view. S3D should be the best; it is infinitely more expensive than free slicers... Having said that I have never even wanted to try S3D. The Slicers I use do the job I want them to do.
