Small, simple and useful objects

For quite some time I was amazed with what could be done with a 3D printer.

I kept visiting pages like Thingiverse and see the magnificent designs they showed.

At last I decided to buy a 3D printer. First collaborating in a Kickstarter campaign. But the poor support and the complication in assembling the printer, convinced me to look for something with a team with greater technical support and a more active and participatory user group.

So I bought a Prusa i3 MK2S kit.

The first printing works that I made were designs downloaded from thingiverse, boats, decorative figures, ...
But finally, what I liked most, what I enjoy the most is the work of recognizing a need, designing an object, deciding how to
It is better to place in bed, decide the material, check the configuration of the program for its slicing, and finally print it.

The objects are simple, very basic and very useful.

Some examples...

First one, the kitchen control:

My mother's wheelchair has a few hooks to put a footrest. When they are not in place, to improve mobility, there are some protrusions that could damage your legs. So I created some pieces with elastic material that avoid that problem.

The dishwasher door is broken. The water comes out every time you wash. There are no more parts. What can be done?

This is a little more complicated, not for the 3D work, but for electronic system.

A thermostat to control the heating

For me this is the future of 3D printing. No more obsolescence issues and a solution to every problem all from the comfort of your own home.

Your ideas and prints are brilliant. Function over form for the win.

two more objects...

First, a photo frame with a passepartout / mat who include a Raspberry Pi that show photos and take the cotization of bitcoins every minute 😆

Second, a pipeline for drain the water of a air-conditioned.

Raspberry Pi, Esp8266, Arduino and 3d printing. What a fantastic mix. :geek:

Tell me, what filament was the light green?

Thanks

Rob,

Yes, before the MK2S I bought many boxes to make my projects. And I always had to modify them with mixed results to get something fairly valid, but I never got what I wanted. Now I get what I want and enjoy doing it.

The filament is a PLA flexible from 3DCPI ( https://www.3dcpi.com/en/supplies-3dcpi/filaments-3dcpi/flexible-3dcpi.html )

This is exactly the same reason why I got the 3D printer, to cover the electronics.

Thanks for the filament link.

Yes, I think there are many of us who bought 3d printers just for this purpose. And of course, then we find all the other uses for them too.

I use Fusion 360 for the design, but it can be rather frustrating at time. It seems the developers just want to cram it full of features, at the expense of fixing bugs and stability. 😐

Nikolai: your project is very funny!

Rob: I use freecad. It's easy and very complete for my designs.

How do you find its stability. Does it crash much?

No, without problem. I have it in four computers and they are working perfect. All of them with Win10 and freecad 0.16.
