Prusament ASA is super-nice...

Just finished printing all of the plastic parts to overhaul my 1st MK3S with about 12km and 350 days of print time on the clock. I used Prusament ASA Galaxy Black, adding the custom skirt as recommended. Also note printer is in a custom ventilated enclosure and ambient temps stay at around 45ºC with extremely little air flow. Prusament ASA is very, very nice. It prints very clean, zero stringing and better overhangs and bridging than PLA, if you can believe it. Nice matte finish too. Must use smooth plate as textured will stick too much. Removal from smooth is easy - just like PLA if you wait for it to cool. I really love this stuff! Hope they can make more colors and keep it in stock more often.

Nice! I'm using a lack enclosure but I'm having trouble with bed adhesion still. I'm thinking I might need to try with the custom skirt to see if it helps.

Did you have issues before using the custom skirt?

@steven-simpson

Are you having problems with lifting on the edges or just general adhesion? The enclosure I have is insulated and ventilated so I can control the temp and it is able to get much higher ambient temps than the Lack enclosure (I keep it around 45ºC). Combined with the custom skirt and high enclosure temp I don't have any lifting or warping at all. I think the skirt is the real key. I never tried it before I started using ASA and just read the Prusa blog post - it works. I have printed some smaller parts without the skirt with no problems. But I also tried printing a bunch of parts that filled the bed without a skirt and had some lifting and warping on some of the parts at the edges of the plate.

Unfortunately after using the parts I have found that they break apart on the layer lines very easily. Used the correct profile and even tried increasing temps.

I know this was a long time ago but did you ask Prusa what happened or did you figure it out? Thanks

@neil-1

I haven't asked Prusa, but other forum members said that is normal with ASA, that while it does last outdoors longer it has less layer strength. Just a little disappointing because I thought it was a replacement for ABS, but the strength doesn't seem to be there.
