"ORAD-V" - Autonomous Vehicle Concept Design
Here is the finished 3d-print of my ORAD-V, which I proudly printed on my Prusa MK2.5. It's been printed in PLA, took roughly 36 hours altogether.
It was always a dream of mine to design some concept in 3d and hold it physically in my hands. Took me 2-3 months from raw print to the finished version - the digital design process was another 3 months beforehand. As a base for this project I bought some RC-rubber-tires, which helped as a starting point and reference for scale. It looks like an RC-vehicle - especially with the antennas, but it's not ... maybe next time ;).
The 3d model in Blender, before cutting it into sections.
All the major parts after sanding ready to be primed.
Since I was tired of using spraycans, I digged out my 30 year old airbrush-kit which still worked fine and allowed me much finer details. I must have used tons of masking tape, especially for the stripes. I was surprised that there were so many steps involved and each one is a creative decision.
I painted two different color schemes in substance painter, which helped enormously in the manual colouring process. In the end I took the colours from the blue scheme and the pattern from the red one.
Along with the 3d-print I did a few renders. If you want to check the rest of them go here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/aY2eaR
