Re: MasterSpool

I've asked a few filament suppliers if they plan on adopting this and they said it wasn't cost effective to change over.

RichRap3D mentioned on Twitter, that more filament manufacturers may try "refill" option coming summer.

Filaments.ca, a Canadian supplier (that ships to the USA which, thanks to current currency exchange rates, grants USD buyers a hefty discount) has committed to and started shipping with the master spool:

their in-house filaments are great, fwiw

Thanks for the links. The prices for the "refill" spools are very attractive, even without the currency discount.

I agree!

Proud owner of a Mk3 that is producing very nice prints. There is room for improvement as I learn more about it, but so far I am very happy.

Re: MasterSpool

They seem to be out of stock on a lot of their products. I wonder if this is because they are being over run with orders or have a smaller manufacturing capability?

I agree with the adoption of this, but some companies are selling the spool or refill at same price, there should be a discount:

It is cheaper. There's an extra 50g's on the refill. 800 vs 850. also check shipping cost. the net weight for the one WITH the spool with 800g's of filament is 1050g. Over 1KG. there is a shipping tier 1KG crosses into that 850 wouldn't. so it should cost less in shipping for a single refill of 850 vs the 800.

You are right.
But if they use strong box to pack things up it will pass the 1KG easy, waste 150g in packing is easy if you want go safe and strong.
Right now best postage cost for me is from prusa, at 8€ no matter if 1kg or 3kg. pccomponents from spain at 4.5€, and amazon at 0€ with prime.
But i would like more brands with refill option, i don't like the waste and don't know what to do with empty spools other than recycle

I pass my spare spools to a sound engineer, for keeping cables tidy!
