hollow draudi

really like this chap.
don't know why it's mentioned challenging for 3D printing with FFF.

.

btw. sliced it with s3d @ 200µm. no raft, brim or support material. 200°C nozzle (1st layer 215°C), 55°C bed. 0.8mm retraction, 0.6mm z-lift. default printing speed with herz pla: 55mm/s. bridging extrusion multiplier: 0.98, bridging speed: 80%.

took an hour more than estimated... but who cares 🙄

Nice Jeff

I sliced with Prusa Slic3r and things went great for the most part, but my settings struggled with the overhangs. Any suggestions?

Luckily it looks a bit like lizard skin 😉

yeah, the overhang remains a problem. 😈
the belly of my draudi looks a little bit better... but not much. the overhang is still the challange.
I'm curious how it would look like with Peter's favorite (KISS).

💡 About my settings: I've sliced it with S3D, you can have a look at the details which are commented inside the attached gcode.

no, not really.... because it's a save win for you.

➡ but from the pictures you've posted about the capabilities of KISS, it would really be nice to see how it would deal with draudi. 🙄

Jeff

I currently have 2 printing; one using auto-variable height and the other fixed 0.2mm layers.

Really not sure how they will turn out; probably quite bad as I am using up really old filaments and am still finding the best settings after having tested 5 different alpha versions of KISS in the past 5 days!

I will be very pleased if they turn out anything close to yours at present.

Peter

P.S. It's not good using old filaments; had 4 blockages today and ended up changing a nozzle after running through Fillamentum Purple/Red on both printers that was first used on the Cheshire cat.

Re: hollow draudi

Split the draudi in two parts and rotate the lower part upside down. After printing both parts, glue it togehter :ugeek:

Why?

Very slight roughness on the lower chest.

@Jeff that's the 0.2mm layer print. The variable height failed with a blockage (old filament) and very bad stringing (at 195!), but the lower chest on that did look good.

Peter, any 'special' settings to achieve this, or do you think the way kiss slices is the key?

Re: hollow draudi

@Peter: big thank you for printing it, sliced with KISS.

at the chest it's clearly different to the other prints, even so that it's not easy to rate it with the shiny black pla because the glossy reflections make it difficult to compare it with the orange pla.

and i need to mention: stringing was a problem here as well, especially at the holes.

btw.: do you think a KISS version (with the special capabilities regarding overhang and variable layer height) will be available soon for the public ?

Yes. Within a week I suspect the new beta will be released, with a whole new raft of features, including a very special seam hiding routine.

OK, I shall stir things up a bit. There are only 2 slicers which consistently produce top quality prints. Slic3r and KISS. They are very different to each other and work in completely different ways, but achieve very good results. (Personally I believe KISS to be better than Slic3r in several ways.)

My settings are currently all over the place because of testing the alphas:

KISS does perform many tricks to get decent prints, most of which are still not yet implemented in other slicers. I think the print quality is due to those tricks.

"Old" is very correct.

It was late last evening, and I couldn't be bothered editing the photo... Just thought nobody would notice. Just a good job you didn't see the rest of the medications 😉

Re: hollow draudi

Here is my attempt, and by that I mean using the provided gcode. This is hatchbox PLA, have never used it, just loaded gcode and hit print. Pretty happy with results, bit of stringing, but no sagging parts or anything. The backend even came off the build plate about 3-4mm just after the back feet bridged over, however it still printed with no issues, which amazed me. As a bonus my 19 month old loves it.
Sorry image did not work first time, I even used preview and it showed up for me, so assumed it was ok.

💡
seems that this attempt to include a link for the picture didn't work !
don't use the "Img" option of this board !!! Attach the *.jpg as an ordinary file (you can see a tab for uploading attachements underneath the text-box for your posting, right to the "Options" tab.
if you've attached the picture as file, you can even "place it inline" at your post, wherever you like...

yeah, most likely because you were logged in at your picture service, and we aren't.
anyway, print looks quite good at this view. but i assume that it has the same issues at the chest as our prints (even Peters KISS based one).
