Help with printing defect

When I print in nylon and ABS, I keep getting this defect. It’s starts off printing perfect but when it gets about 1/4th of the way up (right where it only stays in that spot it gets all blobby. I don’t understand why the first part is perfect but the rest is not.

Re: Help with printing defect

Hi Simon. Does the blobbiness start when the model changes from a wider base area or two island print area,
Into a single column?

That is what it looks like to me.

If that is the case it is likely that the problem is cooling

On the larger print area the deposited filament has time to cool before the next layer is deposited on top of it.
On the smaller area the last layer is still hot when the next layer is laid on top. Leading to deformation

Try slowing the print down.
Slic3r has a function to help. I believe its In the filament section. slow down print if layer time is below xx seconds.

Re: Help with printing defect

Guess who has never printed Nylon...
the option I was talking about is in the cooling menu of Slic3r, and I understand that you don't use cooling with Nylon,

so alternatives,
slowing down the print speed either in Slic3r or on the LCD panel
print two items at the same time on different sides of the build plate, to increase the layer time
create a sacrificial object if you don't need two items.
try cooler print temperature

Good luck,
Joan

Thank you for your swift response. I will try this. One part is Nylon, the other is ABS. Problem seems to occur with both.
