Batman acetone smoothed

I've printed batman and smoothed it with vapor acetone
I've made a video of it if you want to see multiple angles: :

Yes you're right. I noticed this line at the end of the print, something like the Z axis has jumped a layer, I don't know. I tried to detach it and it brokes quite easily, so I glued it but we still can see the line. Perhaps someone coul explain what happened during the print ? It's the first time I see something like this on my print.

Re: Batman acetone smoothed

hmmm... that the z-axis jumped a layer by the malfunction of a stepper at the z-hop would be really curious. this then must have happened at both stepper motors at the same time, otherwise you should have noticed a better bonding at the right or the left side of the separating line. so, in my mind, this eliminates printing in silent mode as a reason.

have you printed the gcode more than once ?
would be of interest if the fault comes from the slicer or from an accidential happening, like a tangled filament which caused the hotend to lift the whole x-axis with the force of the extruder stepper.

Yes I think you're right, a malfunction of both Z motor seems unlikely. I've printed it once, it's almost 6 hours to print it. I would have liked to elucidate the problem before trying another time.
"like a tangled filament which caused the hotend to lift the whole x-axis with the force of the extruder stepper." Do you think this can happen exactly for an entire layer like in my print ?

Re: Batman acetone smoothed

yes, imagine the filament is tangled and the extruder tries to push filament through the hotend... then a z-movement (maybe z-hop) lifts up the whole carriage and the extruder stepper tensions the filament a little bit more. now the printer tries to push the z-axis down again (to the previous layer) which fails due to the tangled filament.
now the printer "thinks" he operates at the right z-level, but in reality the z-hop remains and adds to the actual printing height.

(hope my explanation is understandable).
