3D Printed Pendulum Clock

Here is a pendulum clock that I printed on the Prusa MK3. It has an 8 day run time using 4.5 pounds of weight.

The frame segments just barely fit within the MK3 print window when positioned diagonally. Everything was printed in PLA on a standard MK3 with layering for the color changes.

I entered it into a Hackaday contest for 3D printed gears, pulleys, and cams. https://hackaday.io/project/163814-3d-printed-pendulum-clock

A short video is at

Thanks. It took a few iterations to get the friction low enough to keep it running smoothly for 8 days. I don't mind that it is only mostly 3D printed. It uses steel shafts in steel bushings with dry Teflon lube. The slow speed hour hand is the only plastic part rubbing on plastic.

Beautiful!

Proud owner of a Mk3 that is producing very nice prints. There is room for improvement as I learn more about it, but so far I am very happy.

Very nice. Sending a link to a clock maker friend; normally he works in real brass and steel, but I'm sure he'll be drooling until you post it on Thingy.

Wonderful.... but in Germany it´s very hard to get the Materials in inches...

The World (most of all Countries) uses metric Sizes.

I hope all the alternative Parts i have selected will work.

Thanks for sharing the Clock.

At the rate our society is regressing - we feel lucky to have inches.

They are changing our speed limit signs to furlongs per fortnight.

But then, based on the question, maybe this is more helpful:

I think that the only reason we still have inches is that we regressed. 30 years ago highway signs were listing both miles and km, which was progress.

My speedometer reads MPH & kMPH -- and I know 25.4 means something, as does 1.6, and um, a cc and a ml is about the same, but not really.  But what is amazing is I still think people get confused over tbsp and tsp.  But when it gets too confusing I always know where my bottle of rum is. And it doesn't care if a swig is an ounce, centiliter, or chugged til empty.

RE: 3D Printed Pendulum Clock

hello steven,

great work!

is it possible to get a cad-assembly (step files) of the clock? I would make some adjustments, because i'm working with metric system (Inventor 2019).

thanks a lot!!!
