RE: Where are you Sourcing the Materials from, for the face Shield?

Mop, I am in the european area and I have been buying pre-cut PET clear sheets from Amazon (lockdown here so normal local buy shopping impossible) - normally people use these sheets for signs, models, dolls house windows etc. I have managed to get 0.75mm and 0.5mm thickness, some A4 and others 240 x 210 - much more expensive than bulk options but as this is an emergency, I'm getting what I can. I hand drill the holes - dxf files may be included in the files package for your selected face shield design for where to drill the holes - I made a template for drilling the holes (posted on prusaprinters.org if you want it) that works for me but given hand drill accuracy you can work with whatever method you choose to get acceptable output. A cardboard or paper template would also work and is of course quicker but not as robust as a printed one.

I'm used this hand drill method for Prusa RC2 and the Brazil remix - the clear visor is obviously going to be a little smaller but it is still much better than nothing (but obviously not as good as a spacesuit or full bio-hazmat kit).

I have also made some of the Sweden design euro light visors using acetate (OHP) - these are quite useable and there are North American variants that work with letter size sheets and hole punches.

Cheers

Mop,

I'm using stuff like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GII4J64/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I expect that you can similar PET sheets in the USA.

I am testing an RC2 holed petg 0.6 nozzle print now that produces 2 face shield frames in 2:44 - quicker yet (Thank You Stefan: ). I'll let you know how i get on. I did not implement all Stefan's methods just the low hanging fruit: no infill and layer up to 0.35 Speed. The main time reducer is of course still the 0.6 nozzle.

Mop, the faster printing is working out ok - I have updated my remix - print time is 2:40 with a 0.6 nozzle.

I'm able to print 2 of the NIH Prusa variants (similar to the visored version shown above) in roughly 2h15m with a 0.6mm nozzle and AmazonBasics/Overture PETG. Notes and details here. That visored version prints a bit more slowly, but should print in under 1h30m.

RE: Where are you Sourcing the Materials from, for the face Shield?

In doing some online digging, I've noticed the following materials being used for shields. OHP sheets, Binder Covers, Polyester Film, Laminating Pouches, PETG, PET, Clear Vinyl Fabric, Acetate, Pentaprint, Clear X-Ray Film, 3-hole punched sleeves. Each have pros/cons, but will technically work.

Obviously, most of these will not work with the current 3D-printed design due to transparency flimsiness.

An alternative solution that will and is much more cost-effective, manufacturable,  and scaleable, could be something like this which doesn't require a 3D printer or a laser cutter. (I would insert a picture, but it won't let me.)

Buy bulk safety glasses - $1/free, binder clips - $0.07, and clear plastic 8.5"x11"  - $0.26/sheet

Clip the clear plastic to the folding arms of the safety glasses, and voila! I've interviewed health care workers, and they can easily assemble the shield themselves given a pile of materials in under 15 seconds.

@samuel-gould

You, my friend, have just saved my hide. I've been supplying a couple nursing homes here in New England and all of my suppliers have dried up. I have bought multiple types of laminating film, all of which was not clear enough for use. I've tried chemically treating it, heating it up, everything I could think of to get it clear but nothing seems to work. Your suggestions just scored me what I need though, and the elders in my community thank you immensely.
