Prusa Face shield - disinfection
Hi guys,
we are putting together a list of the disinfection solutions and procedures, which should be sufficient to reuse the shield multiple times. We have shipped shields to hospitals and labs to help us verify those procedures. However, it will take some time as the tests have to be repeated.

Hi,
i'm afraid that the air hidden in the print (infill<100%) might be an issue later, when someone tries disinfection with heat, hot water for example !? Maybe it's better to set perimeters to 10 to avoid any hidden air as far as possible. What do you think?

The lower sheet holder might be difficult to clean and to disinfect. With a slightly different design you may avoid this part, see picture. Laser cut of 0.5mm Vivak/ PET-G. Simply bend the sheet as needed. Its a dotted line, easy to bend. Just a suggestion.

Yes, i can 🙂 A short and a long version. The first print with perimeters > 10 is done and the print quality is a lot better, and with sligthly higher temperature no stringing at all. The infill algorithms have still much room for improvements...

So while watching some frames print an interesting thought came to mind. What if you took a fast drying polyurethane sealant or a paint topcoat sealant do you think it would help seal the little gaps in the prints and maybe smooth the prints out a littlebit to make them easier to wipe down. Might be something to think about.

I always use a textured sheet as i get better results. Does anyone know if the texture on the print caused by the textured sheet will cause issues with cleaning?

Ok I have no experience in the medical field (my disclosure). I wanted to pose a question, if we're only helping a small local group, and the virus shelf life on stainless steel is 3 days, couldn't we print a shield for Mon/Thurs, Tues/Fri, Wed/Sat? Have the days labeled on the shield. In addition to the shelf life, couldn't we place the shield in a UV box?

I am a medical expert and work with COVID patients:
Submerge the protective panel in warm, soapy water first to get any surface contaminants off, and then gently clean the surface with a soft sponge or cloth. After that, rinse and gently dry your face shield with a soft towel (cotton or microfiber).
It’s possible to clean a face shield with antibacterial wipes, but be careful because they can leave a residue. You can also sanitize your face shield with 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes. If you’re tempted to use a window or household cleaner on your face shield, don’t. Harsh cleaners could potentially damage it.
You can also use UV-C light for 5-10 minutes to deactivate COVID.
