Image problem

I have turn my Raspi off (4B 4GB) to put in a custom case.

After switching on again the reboot failed and I connected a HDMI cable and the last line says:

2.4001031---[ end Kernel panic - not syncing: UFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (179,2) ]---

Is there anything I can do other than reflashing the Image on the Raspi?

Kernel panic is almost always a corrupt boot ... but first try cleaning the connector pads on the micro SD, dirt or corrosion is sometimes the cause.

Cheerio,

RE: Image problem

Hi, if the problem ends up being a corrupted, but otherwise functional micro SD card, please share the vendor and model with us. I'll try and make a spreadsheet to see, which vendors to avoid, or if the problem is entirely on our side. Thank you

The connector cleaning didnt help.

I ordered a new SD Card to test whether the old SD Card was the problem

I use a SD Card that i still had at home (~ 5 years old)

Kingston 16GB micro SDHC class 4

@tojik do you need more infos?

RE: Image problem

That sounds legit, not the SD card I was hoping to see there. That gives the "properly shut down your raspberry pi camp" some more weight.

I'm interested in the outcome, and whether the SD works just fine when re-formatted.

Thanks for sharing

I can't flash the old SD Card again.

The Raspberry Pi Imager v1.7.2 stats following error:

german original:

Verifizierung fehlgeschlagen. Der Inhalt der SD-Karte weicht von dem Inhalt ab, dergeschrieben werden sollte.

english:

Verification failed. The content of the SD card differs from the content of what should be written.

RE: Image problem

Okay, this might be kind of a good news for me. Well, either PrusaLink accelerated the SD card's deterioration, or it did not have much left in it and PrusaLink did not cause the data corruption.
Anyway, it is weird that you can write to the card at all. Usually, the controller switches it into a read only mode and that's it. This seems like it does not resist writing, but can't actually do it.
Either way, rest in piece card
So yea, glad it's not data corruption caused by shutting down improperly, but still sucks it died
