Help connecting to wifi - been working with support for 2.5 months

My originally purchased Buddy3D camera was working fine until it bricked (solid green light).   Support was quick to order me a replacement.   However, I haven't been able to make this new replacement camera connect to the wifi.   I'm starting this thread to see if others have had similar issues and found a resolution and perhaps be of help to others who might come across similar problems.

What works:  I am able to perform the following on the camera per instructions --  Factory reset,  SD Card based firmware updates, enter pairing mode.   When scanning a QR code, it gives me short chirps.

Problem:  After scanning QR code, it gives me 3 long beeps indicating that pairing was unsuccessful.  In Connect, camera displays as "Not Registered"

Wifi Setup:  Created a dedicated 2.4ghz wifi on my unifi system with a simple SSID (no spaces, no special characters, no numbers, 6 characters long).   Password is a single word, all lower case, 10 characters long, no numbers, no special characters. Mk3.9s is connected to this wifi.  I am able to connect other devices (computer, phone) to it as well (to test it)

Firmware:  I updated the firmware to 3.0.4 manually using the tar file that support provided via SD card

Here's everything Support has made me try

  1. Remove the camera from Connect and do a hard factory reset of the printer with the latest firmware.  (this was painful but I did it)
  2. Perform the pairing with computer, printer, camera using the same wifi network.  Use Google Chrome web browser not mobile app with dark mode turned off
  3. Try again using my phone's hotspot.  I also tried using a GL.iNet portable travel router.  Again with simple SSID and passwords
  4. Record a video of me attempting the pairing process and send it to them
  5. Try another monitor to scan the QR code e.g. my cellphone.   I also took a screenshot of the QR code and printed it out

I've asked for the 3.1.0 tar file.  Hoping they can provide that and it fixes the problem.   Wondering if anyone else has suggestions or has had a similar issue and got it resolved.   Thanks!

RE:

Hi,

I had similar trouble and got 2  replacement Core One Buddy Cams after 2 Cam where stuck in a permanent green light and not possible to scan a Wifi QR Code again.

With my 3rd Cam I was warned not to use my WPA3 Wifi SSID with a 64 symbols log password which contains also sorts of special symbols like # $ % *&...

So I created a new SSID with a 12 symbols long and letters only password and the 3rd Cam was connecting and show up in prusa connect and telling me 2 to 5 minutes later its doing a firmware update.

As I was capturing all traffic of the Core One Buddy Cam I came across https://connect-ota.prusa3d.com/ and the firmware file https://connect-ota.prusa3d.com/file/cam-3.1.0.tar.

As I was currios to see if the 2 other Core One Buddy Cams could be save I downloaded the https://connect-ota.prusa3d.com/file/cam-3.1.0.tar file and renamed it to cus_update_ota.tar put it on a 16GB FAT32 formatted micro SD Card. Inserted the SD Card into one of my Bricked Cams. After 1 or 2 minute the "bricked" Cam told me its doing a firmware update and after 2 more minutes it was telling the the Wifi connection failed. But then I was able to scan successfully a new Wifi QR code and the Cam was showing u in Prusa connect and if working fine.

Now I have 3 Core One Buddy Cam where it was in the end just a poor 3.0.4 firmware.

I hope you can get you cam working with a SD Card firmware update.

I also hope tha Prusa Support will doing a better job handout firmware update instruction or start ship the cams with the 3.1.0 firmware.

Cheers,
Gabbajoe
