Buddy3D Camera update
Hi
My Buddy3D Camera is on Firmware version3.0.1 and has been online for 3 days.
How long will it take before it updates to Firmware version3.0.4.
Can I force it to update
Best Answer by stevo1957:
I discussed this with support and they provided the procedure to update the Buddy3D firmware manually to v 3.0.4
I did have to try a few different Micro SD cards though before it would work:
1.Unplug the camera.
2.Download and unzip the file

3.Put the cus_update_ota.tar file on the SD card.
4.Insert the SD card into the camera and plug it back in.
5.Wait a few minutes till the camera updates the firmware.
It worked for me.
Unless I am imagining it, the image seems to be a lot sharper under this release.
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Good question! The instructions say it will do an immediate update the first time it connects. So, maybe try a factory reset and re-install (just the camera).
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Same with my camera: FW 3.0.1, permanently online and no update to FW 3.0.1. I tried a factory reset and a re-install, but nothing changed. It seems that more of us have the same problem....
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
*.... and no update to FW 3.0.4 (!) of course.
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Same situation for me too. I'll follow the discussion for any developments.
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
I have a question, maybe a stupid one: are OTA updates downloaded to the internal memory of the camera to be installed later? Or is it necessary to install a microSD for this purpose?
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
I'm having the same problem as well. Camera has been powered on and left on multiple times for several hours and at no time has a firmware update on it started.
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Hello,
Same here, no update, couldn't find any workaround to force the update... I even put a SD in it to see if it does something.
Let's wait and see if something happens.
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Same problem with me.
I received my camera a few days ago and despite leaving it online, it has not updated firmware.

Thanks worked on the first try
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Good to hear.
I can only get it to work if I use a 32GB or smaller Micro SD, formatted as FAT32.
The Buddy3D manual says MicroSD cards formatted as "exFAT" are compatible, but if I try a firmware upgrade from a 64 GB card which formats to exFAT, it fails.
What type of Micro SD card worked for you?

RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Hello,
@Stevo1957: Thanks for posting the result of the discussion with the assistance.
I downloaded the files.
First try : 4Gb fat32 sd with both json and tar files. Did not update. (I have a doubt on the SD card itself)
Second try: 32Gb fat32 sd with tar file only, update within a minute after replug of the camera.
And I have to admit the update seems to produce a better image.
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Hi
I used an older 32gb in FAT32
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Thank's a lot for posting the solution.
I must say I'm disappointed by the Prusa support on this matter since I talked about this issue something like 10 days ago and I was still expecting a mail that what supposed to provide the solution.
Luckily our helpfull community answered this issue encountered by a lot of users
Again many thanks to stevo1957 for posting this information.
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
I did some more testing with the Micro SD cards last night.
Despite the Buddy3D manual saying cards with "exFAT" file systems are ok, the only way I can get the firmware upgrade to work on a 64 GB card, is to format it with a "FAT32" file system, via a third party disk partitioning program. (I used AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard).
Maybe "exFAT" will work on larger cards for image storage etc, but it doesn't work for firmware updating.
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
I am on the latest firmware and the image is in monochrome only. This camera is so disappointing and Prusa think it is OK to drip feed updates for a system to keep an eye on a 3.5k printer. They are having a laugh.
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
I would really like to know what this firmware update has gave us because I can not see any difference.
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Just got my first Buddy3D Camera and once connected/set up it updated to v 3.0.1 so I followed these instruction and now running v 3.0.4. Micro SD is 32GB and Fat 32 formatted 🤪 Now I just got to get it set up on my Prusa XL 💪
RE: Buddy3D Camera update
Hope you won’t be as disappointed as I am with the Buddy camera.
