Y axis pause

Hey, I've been struggling for a while now and I've noticed a pause in my y-axis when I do a belt test. It passes the belt test but the pause seems like it could be causing some issues. Am I wrong is that pause supposed to be in the belt check? I've tightened and loosened the belt a ton of times. Checked the belt a ton more and assembled and disassembled the thing many more I've been struggling with this for 2 weeks and I could really use some input other than check the Z calibration because I've done that 1000 times too.

RE: Y axis pause

Does this 'pause' only happen during the test, or does it occur during printing, as in moves that may stress things such as quick non-print moves along the Y axis?

I'm not quite sure I have only ran first layer tests and prints and it doesn't seem to be happening at lower speeds.

Does it print properly?

Do any of the test prints (Prusa logo, frog, Benchy) show evidence of layer shift or inconsistency in the Y plane?

I'm recalibrating the bed and z right now because I just took it apart and put it back together to try and fix the pause but it didn't work. I can have a test print out later today.

RE: Y axis pause

The reason I'm curious is that I've noticed an occasional issue with mine where the mechanism will appear to hesitate during a long fast Y axis move.

I first noticed it on the first move from printing the priming line to the start of the print where the print start is in the very center of the Y plane.

There are no issues with my prints, and I am unable to duplicate it under controlled conditions.

If it occurred more consistently, I could scope the stepper inputs and see what is going on, but it occurs so rarely.

From my experience with steppers, I know that missed or paused steps can be all kinds of things, like load on the motor (not likely in this case), a bad motor, (more likely) something in the stepper driver circuitry or even pauses in the program that's driving it.

I haven't reported this here due to the fact that it's inconsistent, does not appear to affect the printing.  This is the first I've heard of anyone else having anything close to this issue.

I've decreased the speed of the non-print moves and I have not seen it happen since.  Right now the machine is running close to 24 x 7 on a fairly large project and I've seen no evidence of a Y axis shift.

I see mine is very consistent and I've only seen it not happen every handful of times. I assumed it must be the motor after having messed with the bed and belt for a week now. I'm running the treefrog right now so I guess I will find out if it is affecting me terribly or not. If it does I will try slowing it down and if that doesn't work I will just have to request a new motor and see if that works.

RE: Y axis pause

In my experience, motor issues are usually mechanical (bearing bad, physical damage) or else electrical (shorted turn, bad connection) and all of these are fairly obvious.  I've seen far more issues having to do with the driver circuitry (bad chip or driver transistor, inadequate power) than with the motor itself.

Does the motor rotate freely when powered down?  Is the motor firmly connected to the Einsy board?  I would tend to suspect the stepper driver (on the board) before the motor itself.

For a malfunctioning stepper system, you can often get a good idea of what the problem is by feeling the rotation and maybe giving it a slight bit of friction with the fingers.  I know that the steppers on the I3 do have a fair amount of torque and a smooth feel to the finger when operating.  Minor finger pressure will not stall them or cause them to miss steps.

I think my nozzle might b uneven but it doesn't seem like the pause is happening during a print.
