X end bearing makes noise

I love my new mini, but when the x carriage moves fast for say 10cm it sounds like the belt on the bearing makes a squishing sound.

Is that normal?

My mini just started doing something similar.  Squeaking in the X bearing and wobble in the belt.  Video attached.

Exactly that is the same 'issue' I have.

Do not get me wrong here the prints from the printer are beautiful.

The only other thing I see it that when I use non Prusament filament I need to raise the flowrate on the second layer (and above) from 95 to 98 otherwise the lines do not merge...

Not sure if this means that the belt is too tight or loose.  I had no problems with the first 20-30 hours of printing.  I've only used Prusament PLA.  Looks like the x belt is wearing through on the sides so you can see some metal exposed in parts.

Seeing the internal fibres in places along the edges of belts is not an indication of wear. New belts often show this too. FYI there is no metal in these belts. More info on Gates belts (which Prusa use) - https://e3d-online.com/blog/2018/11/29/gates-belts-pulleys-and-idlers/

Is there a guide how to dismantle the X end stop (how to release the tension on the belt)

RE: X end bearing makes noise

i have found the problem and maybe a simple solution.

first of all i had the same problem. the nut on the back holds the screw in the middle of the hole but on the front side the screw is not guided and bends to the side. this results in a pulley running not in parallel to the belt. i inserted a M3 nut on the front to and put the screw in again. now the belt runs in the middle of the pulley and does no bending in any direction on movement. The nasty sound also disappeared.

did you make any photos?

to recap what you did (to assure I understand) you unscrewed the front 2 bolts of the X End (marked *1*) added a nut to the bolt in the middle screw (marked *2*) and put everything together

correct

and loosen the 2 screws on the back to push the whole part in extruder direction. this is to release the tension of the belt. you can not remove the screw nr.2 with tension on the pulley. Put the nut at the screw all the way up to the head of the screw.

the only problem could be that the Nr2 screw is now to short to grab the locknut perfect. perhaps turn the locknut around will help.

I have not taken the end stop apart as you said but just turned screw *2* 90 degrees (to the right) sound is now less

I thought that since my printer was build after a certain date you get the latest revision parts... I now see that my X Endstop is release F1 (on the bottom of the part) on Github there is release R2... do not know the difference between F1 and R2 but luckily I ordered a spool of Orange PETG prusament so I can print the R2 version.

are the parts from Prusa printed with 100% infill?

I thought I had the same issue, I have been wondering where a particular rattling noise comes from. The github commit for the R2 part reads "opening holes for screws holding part on the smooth rods", so maybe not related.

I wasn't really sure how the X-end works - which bolts tension the belt? But after adding the nut I don't think it made any difference.  Probably worth doing anyway.

Just need to keep looking for the noise. Sounds like a loose nut somewhere.

@bobcousins

I had the same problem on the x axis with the mk3. The cause was a defective bearing in the belt tensioner. After I replaced the ball bearings (2 pieces) and inserted a m3 washer on the left and right, everything was ok again.

Thank you, have you printed and tested the results?

I found the posting how to slice and print the parts: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/how-do-i-print-this-printing-help/printing-prusa-plastic-parts-and-petg-in-general/

Thanks, I will try that.

I couldn't find an assembly guide for the Mini X-end, but I figured that the "end" screws tension the belt, by pushing against the ends of the smooth rods. Then the side screws clamp the rods to the X-end. The screw for the idler axis doesn't need to be tight, as long as it is square to the belt.

i will do no further investigation on this issue.

RE: X end bearing makes noise

Yeah my mini makes the same noise at the X-axis bearing end. Not sure if its from the pulley rubbing on the plastic or if its the bearing. Haven't taken it apart to investigate. I would tell you how many hours I have on it but I can't seem to find the 'total print time info'.

I did loosen the screws a turn or so and that helped a bit, like not totally gone but it is better than what it was. I'm sure it'll just come back in full soon enough.
